that's bullshit. but how can they scan your ipod to tell if you have illegal downloads? i could see your laptop but ipod and phone?
 
Yeah, there not going to know i used limewire to get my songs, it looks exactly the same as the songs i buy on Itunes or import from a CD.
 
i understandthe music comapanies are getting mad but on our side we have pretty much every single song we ever would want ever for free easy to get without and skill pretty much and why buy a song when you can get it for free
 
i dont think they are. when you downloaded them off itunes or upload from a cd i think theres a drm file embedded in them or something (data rights management) that says thats its a legit song...and not one off limewire....but i could be completely wrong
 
fuckin whatever... airport security is such a fucking joke as it is (i fly often, it's a joke, don't try to tell me otherwise), i doubt they'll actually be able to find illegal downloads. fuck, i'd wager half the people there don't even know how to turn on a cell phone.
 
i'm not that worried at all. What gives them the right to search our electronics? isn't that some kind of violation of our rights? I say just put a password on your stuff and theres nothing they can do, pretty sure they wont be hacking it
 
That is true. Thing is, many people use the .mp3 format, which strips off all the DRM. If you legally own the song, you are allowed to make .mp3 copies of it. So unless they have a complete record of all the music you've ever legally owned, it's impossible to know if an .mp3 was downloaded illegally.
 
What gives them the right to search our ipods and stuff for illegal songs. Its not like its a threat to our health or anyone elses safety. its not like they are gunna be like "O SHIT ITS A LIMEWIRE KID SHOOT HIM HE MIGHT BRING THE PLANE DOWN." No they have no right and no need to do it so forget it

Ok, im going to england in fifteen days, i will waltz through security and customs with the ipod in my ears and see what the do, btw my ipods full of illegal crap.
 
Not if they pass this law/act, whatever you call it.

The thing about all these new laws/acts coming in is a lot of them conflict with existing laws (such as human rights, as you stated). Also, the EU are against this act I think, so expect the EU to be on our side.

If this act is passed, it will cause a lot of fuss worldwide
 
im going to be flying in a few weeks, me and my brothers combined have about 50,000 illegally downloaded songs. ill let you know how it goes
 
exactly. if they pass this law and you get in trouble, take it to court. this kind of stuff conflicts with so many laws that have already been passed. constitutional laws as well. i'm not a fucking lawyer, but i'm pretty sure the case would get dismissed.

and fuck that, if they touched my laptop going through airport security i'd flip shit. i don't know how they can just take your laptop i mean if you're going on a business trip and need it or something you're fucked. either you miss your flight, or are stuck without a laptop for the trip. unless i'm missing something.
 
thats so stupid.. i bet that 95% of ppl who own ipods dont pay for the songs that they have on it.. its not fair to do that

exactly, I don't see how they can make it illegal without violating any other rights, in which case its pretty easy to fight in court.

I can't see this actually happening, way too much violation and it would cause huge problems. I know if someone asked me to sign on my comp so they could check it i'd just say no. What are they gonna do, take it? That's utterly ridiculous, there's no way that would work

they dont have the time to make every person turn on their laptop and everything and only a laptop would show that the songs are illegal if they were able to see what you have downloaded and where you got it from... just put your limewire stuff on an external if youre really afraid
 
Fuck. That. Shit. No way am I going keep my stuff on my iPod, I'll just bring an external hard drive and put the music back on later. This probably won't ever actually happen though, sounds way too extreme to be realistic.
 
yeah but i think most of the p2p applications and stuff like limewire share the stuff in your library automatically, so most people are sharing anyways
 
fuck it. i've been thinking about it and there is no way they can legally pull that shit off. no fucking way. i would just not let them touch my laptop, walk out of the airport and say fuck you guys i fly for free! i'll be on the next motherfucking flight to utah bitches. isn't J.D. doing something with law? he should be able to answer if they can legally do this right?
 
Hah. I remember one time when my dad was coming back from a hunting trip in Alaska, he brought his hunting backpack with him as a carry-on. When he get back to NY and was cleaning out the backpack, he found two loaded shotgun shells that he forgot to take out. If security can't figure out that my dad is bringing ammo on the plane with him, I highly doubt they'll be able to scan my ipod and tell me that i have 1,289 illegal songs on it.
 
im going to start a chain of hotels that are all bulit adjacent, or possibly within, major airports. In the next few years they will prbly produce enough revenue for me to make a decent living. But soon, getting through airport security will take so long that evry patron of the airport will be forced to sleep in my hotels!!!!!!!
 
fuck, im going to europe for a month next year, and i will be so fucking pissed if i cant bring my ipod or my laptop, although i dont have any illegals on my laptop, because i got all my songs from my brothers friend and my firend
 
they could plug your ipod into a computer their to see if songs are illegal

these searches are going to be random searches though. not everyone gets searched, this act simply gives customs the RIGHT to search your ipod/phone. chances of you being caught are probably still low, or bring two mp3 players, like a shuffle or something with all legal music on it.
 
well im not sure if australia is on the list of countries that agreed to do this but they didnt even notice that i had an ipod in my backpack let alone take it out and scan it
