People rating you massive karma won't bring you up on its own..there is a forumla that has been coded which takes HEAPS of things into account when calculating it

I don't know, i think must have soe effect, i mean look at that thread about rollerbladers being better than skiers the guy that started that had like 20 posts and had been a meber like a day and his karma was at zero, i can only imagin that was from people rating him low. i don't really get the karma though cos people who are only nice on here and don't speak shit at all have 40-47 karma generally i don't see what they are losing points for.

It's not all peer-to-peer ratings, it's also the stuff you do outside the forums.
True story. There are many things that go into how you're rated. Peer
to peer rating is only a small factor. Nobody knows when/if they are
getting rated, so I tend to send out a PM to say, "hey, your post in
such and such thread was kick ass, + karma for you" - and they
appreciate it. They know someone is using it. Getting more people to use it will only help it take effect.

Karma means nothing. It doesn't even work. I have been working on Yauch's karma and iit never changed, he is still at 46....it should be a lot lower. My karma point havent even changed since its been introduced. Maybe the karma system is in place, but its not activated yet....or its been glitched.
Though Bishop, I do have a question. In your profile, where it says "others rate me - n/a" - when is that actually going to start working? I think everyone's karma questions will be understood a little bit more if they know what their comrades are rating them.

am i really as bad as yauch? my karma rating seems to say so...
everytime you hit a keystroke on NS it counts..... The question is, where do the keystrokes count the most? It's not too hard to figure out that certain things on this site have more value/weighting than other things. I bet that some things that have the highest weighting are used the least. for example: when was the last time any of you wrote a review? Now I am not saying that if you wrote 10 reviews that your rating will go up, cause honestly, I don't know..

then there's an obvious flaw, but most people i've seen have had at least 1,000.

some of the factors are fairly easy to figure out (some not so much), like if you;re more active with postiing your karma will probably go up (which confuses me as there are some people who hardly go on who are really high), posting stuff that gets ratings like vids and pics also gives you points, and also creating threads. its pretty appartent that using many functions of the raises your karma.
