i'm thinking around 2-3 hundred range or cheaper..

more than likely i'll try to find one on ebay.

i really don't know much about cameras other than the junky digital point and shoot ones my rents buy..

i'd like to buy a nice one though to take on tour with my band and other ventures though

get a d40 you bitch.

D40 is your best bet. Nikon makes great cameras that are easy to use and fun to mess with. I recommend them.

I have a Pentax IST-d. 6.1 megapixel. It takes pretty damn nice pictures for a relatively cheap DSLR.

i doubt it, 30d's go for like 400 body only
maybe check out a rebel xt, 20d, or rebel xti if you can afford it

save up a little longer and snag a used Canon D20 or D30, make sure you buy from a legit seller, like a photographer who doesnt need it anymore. If you cant find a Canon D30 or 20 look for some other canon, beacuse at the lower price levels Canon is the best, i have had terrible luck with Nikon and Sony cams

if you want an artsy camera. what you have to do is go to a kodac store and buy one of those $10 cameras. then you draw all over it. now you have an artsy camera. :D

get a GoPro camera! It puts out surprisingly nice colors, and takes video!

Other suggestions are a Holga, Polaroid, or Lomo 2 (fisheye) if you want the artsy point-and-shoot effect.

You could always get a 35mm SLR (Canon AE1) and learn how to shoot infrared film stock. Most badass!

canon sd990
size of point and shoot, manual controls, takes the nicest pictures ever. can shoot in widescreen.
i got it because i don't know THAT much about photography but i like to mess around every once in awhile. i also didn't want to lug around a huge monster of a camera. this thing is perfect, one of the best purchasing decisions i've ever made. canon hands down makes the best point and shoots, i wouldn't even look at anything else.

Yo thanks for the suggestions I'll def be looking what all you guys said... If I decide to buy a camera new where would suggest going to do that ?

i was at sams club yesterday and i saw an olympus camera that was 12 mp, 7x optical, and had a 3 inch screen for like 249 or something. it was a point and shoot but judging by the specs it would still produce some sick pics. hope that helps!

A real camera store, not best but or something like that with a photo section but a real store. Places like Ritz Camera, Cord Camera or if you are in New York, there isn't a question, go to B&H. If you don't want to walk into a place then I'd order online from bhphotovideo.com, that's where I get almost all my photo gear and I love that store.

for that price yeah youd have to find something used/ few years old or vintage or a pocket sized digi camera

mine was on sale for 600 and its not amazing.
