they prob got the camera on auto, digital cameras have a hard time with snow.

That’s what I mean. I have an older Panasonic and if I use full auto it’ll blow the light out… but I’m smart enough to fix it and manually set the shutter speed lol. A little bit of overexposure is fine and can add a style/flavor to the video but I cannot HANDLE it when you can’t make out any details of the snow.

mini rant over

Nah I think it's stylistic choice in a lot of cases. Some people do it well.

9 out of 10 times its not a stylistic choice it's a mistake, not being able to see what's going on isn't exactly ideal, snow overexposed looks terrible...

Example A of stylistic choice that I would argue is pleasing to watch

Thats true in general but I've been seeing more videos with higher exposure these days and my conclusion is that it's a choice and not a mistake

its almost like he exposed for the darker/flatter light then forgot to adjust it for the sun, just my professional opinion. If you like it thats cool but its pretty frowned upon in every corner of video industry.

i would say its more amatuers that just dont know how to use their gear.

there is absolutely no reason you'd want to purposely ruin your image, but people also like how 480i SD cameras look so to each their own.

Right there with ya. Shoutout [tag=263617]@HaydenB[/tag] for making sick ass videos and developing a style, one of my favorite filmers rn. Definitely a little brighter and maybe “frowned upon” in the film world but I don’t mind it and when done right it looks good, such as this edit.

but when it’s overexposed this much…

its just rather annoying to look at , no hate on gewgaw just the only thing about their videos that I don’t like. Gotta know when too much is too much I guess. But hey if it’s your video, then it’s your fucking video, and you can do whatever the hell you want so ill try not to shit on it too much lol.

yeah this is what it comes down too, I've always been a fan of crispy clean footage as I came up filming in the HD era, different strokes for different folks

The original image is actually flat asf and not over exposed but I do like to bump stuff up in post. I also do run full manual and set wb and all that every time I film

You shouldn’t do that intentionally because white pixels are lost data but if you underexpose then you can just blast exposure in post and get the same effect without literally frying pixels for no reason

you can also make any HD video look like an SD camera if you want, but its not authentic bruh

Something I’ve been tryna get better at not doing but forget about some times ??‍♂️. Guess there’s always next szn. Still tryna figure out my own filming style too

Seeing these side by side was pretty helpful as I initially did not like the edited clip (exposure wise, the video is definitely heat), but then after seeing the original, I do agree it's more boring unedited and the overexposure looks better. However it's still too whitewashed imo, especially the up close shots.

I'm so happy you have that still, I definitely lost it. Please keep these sacred texts alive

to me this looks like it was probably relatively well exposed but he crushed the blacks and raised the highlights while editing. it's not completely blown out in the way a truly overexposed clip is. looks cool, heavenly, fanciful. a departure from real life
