What up..

I'm spending xmas with my GF's fam in Orange and we're planning on going for a shred on the 26th/27th.....

What i want to know is where you'd recommend for such a trip? One day - one mountain... I'm thinking Bear at the minute, but what about mtn High?

also - is it going to be rammed on the 26th? which will be quieter? I know at Bear you need to prebook tickets - does this have a good effect on lines etc? advice would be super cool...

Thanks!!!

Well, welcome to Orange. I live in Tustin, my JC is in Orange.
Bear = 2 hours away pretty much, since you don't know the roads, where cops are, etc. WAY better than Mt. High, lots of jibs, all snowboarders, but its a cool place to ride, its my home mt, and I try to get up there about 4 days a week.
Mt. High = Hour and a half away, but shitty as fuck. Icy/crowded, all snowboarders, lots of jibs, but the Mt is about the size of a walnut.
Yes, it will be packed, badly. I don't go riding during the Christmas holiday for a reason.
If you can, go to Mammoth, its amazing. About 10x better than Bear Mt. for freeriding purposes.

Nice one man - thanks for the info - I think Mammoth might be too far of a trek - how far is that drive?
Beat is somewhere i've always wanted to ride, simply because it's one big park essentially with jibs just tossed around runs and sh*t.... looks so much fun...
You have to buy tickets in advance right? and there is a limit to how many people they allow on the hill? Does that have much of a positive affect on lift lines etc?
And yeah, i plan to go surfing the day after..... :- )

Yeah, Bear is dope.
I don't think you need to reserve tickets reaaally, but it would be a good idea overall. I obviously get a seasons pass every year, so I wouldn't know what to do on that regard.
And yeah, take the 55, which will become the 91. It'll shoot you through Riverside county, then take the 330 up into the mountains. It's a straight shot. And head up EARLY, or your fucked on traffic.
If you see me walking around, 6'5, skis, baggy, holler.

yeaaah man for sure...
I'll have baggy ass Saga hybrid (blue) pants on.... and probably a grey shitake Saga jacket or a jiberish hoodie or something... Line Octo's... so holla at me if you see me -
Looking forward to it... and we plan on heading up early doors... like 6am.... ?
Thanks for all the advice... appreciate it dude. have some more +K

there are maybe 15 total skiers at the mountain, myself included.
If you see a skier around say hi we are a endangered species at Bear.

Fo Sho man....
Will be there on Dec 26th... the place looks like a blast... why's there not many skiiers??

Well man, its SoCal. Its dominated by surfing/skateboarding. Those directly translate into the snowboarding style. That and every single god damn person thinks snowboarding makes you into the next Shaun White, or in many peoples case in Bear, Lucas Magoon.
Any skiers you DO see are weekend warrior twin riders (5-7 days a year), or downhill parents. It's sorta cool though. to be one of the few real freeskiers on the mountain.

Also, the mountain is built with snowboard jibbing in mind, sometimes some of the features can be awkward to get onto...
BC. is my twin brother lol.

i was wondering about the BC/PC thing....
yeah man totally suspected the socal thing - i hope it's not an attitude fest!! I'll be there with my gf, so probably just cruising and i'll be messing about on jibs etc whilst doing that... lapping shit... thats why the place looks so fun though... random jibs on trails...
i thought the mammoth scene may have migrated south a bit by now though with skiing.....

Ok so am i going to end up knocking someone out at Bear then or what? It sounds like from you lot that the place is full of rich kids in shiny clothes on snowboards pretending to be the sh*t and giving it lots of fake attitude.... I just wanna go shred around... i'll go to s. summit if it's gonna be full of d*cks....

it seems like Bear is the only place on earth where that g*y snowboarder vs skiier thing still exists.... ?

bear looks sick though - you should organise a mass NS meet there one day and all throw down like clowns...

well...we ride around in a group of about 10 skiers pretty often....but that doesn't count i guess.

Ok so SUPER fun day at Bear on Sat (26th)..... was pretty quiet too... I was expecting bedlam, but we got up there at like 7:30 and were parked at the bottom of the hill, literally in the first few rows from the ticket office etc...

Fun place to shred - some weird rail / box's... when i say weird i mean the way they build snow onto them and not little kickers... but other then that, conditions were good and jibs were fun.

but f*** me .... i saw literally 5 skiiers max.... i was one of them!! Anyone else up there? Because i can gaurantee i saw you and can tell you what you were wearing...

we don't ski during the holidays, too many weekend warriors there and our passes are on black out till jan 2nd. We will all be up there the third though.

the 26th was SUPER quiet i thought, compared to what i was expecting... no lines all day...
Saw a few kids shredding though.... was cool..... but it's a fun hill.... will be back.

Fuck Bear and Snow Summit. They own Sierra Summit and they don't give us shit. Granted, I know Sierra Summit isn't exactly a destination resort, but some more park features and a high-speed quad would be real nice. I get fresh tracks all day though, so that makes up for my meager little resort.
