XGames spawn a new hate for "T-Dawg"

Prior to seeing the XGames, i had seen about 5 of Tanner's segments in recent flims. He is obviously an awesome skier, probably one of the best, with incredible style. He truely is progressing the sport.

Now, I don't know Tanner personally, only from what I've seen on TV or in Movies. After watching him in the XGames this weekend, I got really sick of seeing his cocky attitude. He seems to be only concerned with himself and could care less about the other competetors or there runs. It's so obvious that he puts on this fake act for the cameras. I was so glad to see him place 4th in Superpipe.

Anyone else feel this way about Tanner?

hes an awsome skier and it showed in the x games, everyone thought he was just favored. Also doesn't look like he thinks he better than everyone else cuz he was congragulating everyone on the sick shit they were throwing.

 
Yeah, I never really liked his attitude before the X games cause I thought he was an annoying little shit, but after the X games I found it even worse. I was thrilled when he didn't place. He definately is putting on an act for the cameras, whether it be of concern for others, or that fucking 'woah cool I'm a rapper' shit he does too.

last spring at Southshore Soldiers camp at Heavenly I got the chance to hang out with Tanner and I gotta set y'all straight. Newschool skiing could not have a better representative than Tanner Hall. The guy was so cool. From people learning to 180 to somebody throwing inverts Tanner was right there cheering and encouraging them on. He didnt dog on anyone for their lack of skill, he cheered them on for progressing. It was really cool to see the sports best overall skier be its best cheerleader as well.

yeah how the fuck are all of u able to come on and say that tanners and asshole he was congradulating all the guys when they did good, u could hear him tellin DC how sick his run was and stuff like that, and then some of u say he's putting on an act, i'm sure u can tell if tanners being sincere by watching a few 10 second clips of him on the tv, u dont know the guy and neither do I so neither of us should be making judgements on him, simple as that

you're stupid, dude. he was stoked for all of the other riders and he even told the announcer he didn't think he could win if the others landed their runs. he's got a certain level of confidence for comps that shouldn't be confused with cockiness.

 
yeah like others said, he did show emotion for the guys that fell down. did you see him get real pumped for CR at the end of his runs in the pipe and slopestyle? i'm not sure what you're talking about. it's real lame of you to accuse someone of putting on an act. tanner is illmatic. he has a reason to be cocky if he wants to.

I kind of agree with both sides of this thread. Tanner is awesome and I've heard from prople who know him that he is a cool guy but he does come off as a jack ass on TV. Didn't you see him all stoked up thinking he won after the final run when his scores came out. It looked to me like he expected to win and was congratulating himself when CR had to come up and tell him he was in second place. I was laughing a little. But he is still sick and I liked his runs a lot. We've gotta respect anyone who does zero spins off 20 foot cliffs.

 
if i had to judge just by what was on tv i would say that olenick had the worst attitude, tanner didnt do shit wrong... why do people hate him so much, hes a nice person, if you ever talk to him you will know

all skiers seem like their pretty cool

but in the end they are somewhat famous so their attitudes are cockier then like the average skier.

for example rex thomas is one of the coolest guys i have ever met, but he is soooo fahken full of himself.

Before everyone hates me I just want to say I have met Tanner at the ski shop here in my town he was cool and all but he did have that cocky attitude but w/e he is a good skier and he was saying to everyone that they kicked ass after there runs hmmmm I dont know he is cocky but then again he cheers everyone on.

Yeah, like i said, I've never met the kid. I was just stating what I saw on TV or how I felt the XGames portrayed him. Clearly those of you who met him seem to love him, so clearly he must be a cool kid. To me, he didn't seem too genuine in his congrads like some of you were saying he was.

Also, what's the deal with his mom? We saw her like every 3 minutes, I don't care about his mom, get her off the tv.

I agree, he's an incredible skier but he's way to cocky. I really don't have anything against him though and I'm sure that his attitude will be the end of him if it isn't just an act in front of the cammeras...

i don't know him so i can't judge. but it was nice to see someone else step up and win the super pipe. although i still think jon olsson should have one.

If I was as good as Tanner I'd be cockey too. But he's definately toned down the cockiness from a couple of years ago. He's the best park skier in the world, no doubt.

word, i dont know where this pete stuff is coming from. He seemed like he was totally stoked to be there not to mention he just won a gold in slopestyle. I'd say pete had on of the best attitudes that i saw.

It seemed like he was acting like a tough guy when he was being interviewed, throwing his hands around, ect.. When they had a camera on him for no reason, he seemed just like everyone else, and those of you who met him said he is cool, so aparently he was putting on a show for the camera.

the cameras love him not only because he is a really good skier, but because the kid has attitude and hes entertaining on and off the hill. he's always known what to do in front of the camera. they keep the camera on him because he doesn't just stand there holding his skis smiling.

I met tanner in person, and he was alot more intellignet then I hear. He also is one of the best skiers on this planet... yes Im claiming it.

H has naturel talent and style. he changes everything each year keeping things fresh and defintly does think he is one of the best. But do you think he could be one opf the best without alwyas reminding himself that? No... its cockiness, and its confidence. nad i never saw da show last night so i dont know but I know he surports alot of other riders.

I didnt read all this but tanner was repping for all the skiers..after the slopestyle he said eh was proud as shit for the people progressing the sport, and they showed him cheering everyone on during pipe and wincing when people fell

apparently people think Pete had a bad attitude cause a few seconds after phil fell the camera went on petes face and he was smiling, i dont think it was because phil fell, just cause he was probably stoked to be doing so well there and didn't think about it, but others think he was laughing at phil

I see all of your points.. And, let me re-emphasize the fact that I DO think tanner is one of the sickest skiers out there. I prefer watching a guy who throws down huge and doesnt act like he's some god or something. It's not neccessary. I think a lot higher of someone when they can go huge and not make a big deal about it. Clearly he was stoked, and for a good reason, but stoked is one thing. Acting like a gorilla on speed is another.

Once and for all Back the fuck off tanner! He's a skier not a fucking role model. He has great style and incredible talent. and he is just like any of us were we to get to the x-games - he wants to win. Same with pete. Pete's a young guy that wants to win an x gold. he feels for someone when they fall but hes gonna be happy because hes still in first. imagine if u were there, u wouldnt be all worried about the support u were showing each skier, u would be concerned 100% with winning. Pete was stoked to be in 1st and on tv. Honestly u guys evaluate every single move these guys make, skiing is a laid back sport that people do cause its sick. stop judging preofessional skiers on their character jesus christ.

yea, i dont think anyone should judge what his personality is like, unless u have met him, and even that, if u know him, thats when u can say what kind of person he is, but in the tent at the x-games he was very passionate about the other skiers, like when phil crashed, he grabbed jon's arm and started yelling, and he always congratulats the other skiers after they're runs....word

The 2 sides Ive seen of him are different extremes. On one side, he is a cocky wigger. On the other, he is a great teacher, supporter, great with kids, funny kid. The way I see it, Tanner is a good kid with a marketing plan and that has obviously worked. I personally dont like it but whatever.

What does the word 'cocky' mean? It comes from confidence. Do you think someone could do the shit they do w/o having confidence in themselves? Are you kidding me?? Why are almost all pro skiers cocky? Because you need to be. You don't go into the pipe trying to go 22 ft out like Simon without knowing and believing you are going to land.

Don't worry about their personalities; worry about their skiing abilities. The X games isn't a big soap opera, so don’t make it out to be.
