Are there any racers and or serious XC riders out there on NS?

What bike do you ride? What specs?

I dunno I'm bored.

I like to do a lot of serious XC I have a specialized DEMO 8 its the greatest XC bike I've ever ridden.

used to do XC, until I find myself always trying to find the biggest hill to ride down. So, I converted to freeride.

I love street riding too. But since I dont have a street bike anymore, Ill have to wait.

How? Please explain and don't just say it's because you wear a full face and shin pads.

You wear a full face and shin pads? Rookie mistake, those slow you way down. I usually just go with shorts and last seasons road bike jersey (aero as fuck) then I ride up some stupid big hill for a few hours with some friends. At some point up said stupid big hill I will usually question why I do this to my self, or why we didn't just shuttle instead. After another 40-90 minutes of climbing we finally reach the top and take in the awesome view through our sweat stained riding glasses (Yeah, I wear them, mud in the eye isn't hardcore; it's just dumb). After this I drink a bunch of water and eat half a power bar before I remember that power bars are nasty and throw it back in my pack with 10 other half eaten power bars I have in there.

At this point you might be saying to your self "Hey dumb ass, I can do that on my XC bike faster than you and I wont be half dead when I reach the top" to which I would kindly reply "LOOK AT MY TIME ON STRAVA ASSHOLE!" (This is a great excuse since most people won't bother to check your time, but if they do make sure to have a solid back-up excuse about your Garmin dying on the ride or something like that) Sadly up until now you are absolutely correct, an XC bike would be a far batter choice to ride up a mountain with – BUT there are only two reasons people ride up big-ass hills: to brag about their KOM on Strava, or to ride back down them.

The down bit is where us enduro/all mountain guys get all giddy. This is where the light agile and twitchy XC bike is left behind and our 27lb carbon cock extension becomes the greatest thing ever. We can take the bigger bikes off bigger drops, take harder hits, and ride the choppy trails with ease while the xc bikes are left trembling in their lycra.

The reason I love my AM bike is that I can ride up the same hills as the XC guys, then I can rip the same trails I take my DH bike on, and still pedal over to the pub for a post-ride pint before riding back up the hill home. With an AM bike I can ride anything from the double blacks in Whistler to a 10 hour XC race and you know what the best part is? I won't win anything. I won't even come close, and that means I can leave the competition behind and just go out and ride my bike with the biggest damn smile I can muster.

Arguing about XC vs DH and the spectrum of everything MTB in between is fucking lame. Everything's sick, everything's enjoyable, just go ride bikes and have fun. If you're doing it any other way, you're doing it wrong.

I feel the same way. People get all caught up in what type of riding they do and can't get over the fact that maybe their style doesn't appeal to everyone else. Personally being an XC racer I don't enjoy all of the aspects of DH and Free ride. While I understand the epicness of that style of riding I personally don't partake. I get that kind of shit done in the winter and in the spring summer and fall I like to let my inner gaper come out and race. (The tights are kinda gay but they make me go fast.)
