Xbox system link help

hey, if I have two standart CAT5e ethernet cables and a routing box, will system link work between 2 xboxes?

I tried to connect my longer ethernet cable directly and it didn't work. I bought the cable from radioshack and it should work. My friend also had an older xbox (no live installed)if that matters. HELP!

yeah, either way should work, i would just link them through your router anyways, thats more efficent.

For system linking your xbox all you need is two tv's and two x boxes and a ethernet cord

the xbox cord is basically the same

Yeah but I did it with my new xbox and a friends about 2 years old and it didnt work with a Radioshak cat5e cord, so would the router fix this? or is it his xbox.

if your linking 2 xboxs without a hub then u need a crossover cable, which is different from a cat 5 cable. if all u have is cat 5 cables then u need to use a hub.

 
So can you use just a regular ethernet cable to hook up the 2 xbox, and do you need 2 games. Do the games have to be xbox live capable either,

The new xboxes sometimes don't work at all. But if you are hooking htem up into the router put one into the uplink and the other in port 2. The reason you don't use port 1 is becuase the uplink cable uses that port. Werd.
