Xbox One

Yes it is. This will be interesting. I will be a freshman in college so I will not be purchasing one but i am looking forward to what it can do. Hopefully it is a strong competitor with the PS4.

Partnered with Spielberg to make a live action Halo series.

Partnered with NFL and EA to make exclusive games and live fantasy updates during games and such.

15 Franchises are being worked on to drop for the system, 8 of them are new.

Now they're dropping new COD and how its entirely new, COD Ghosts

i feel like this is the final step in killing traditional cable/satellite TV once internet reaches the ability to stream true HD.

Looks like a boring media player.

good. once all thats gone we can just get everything through the internt, google fiber will takeover with massive internet speeds and put wifi everywhere. #future constant connection of everything is needed for moving on. You won't need a phone plan then either, you can just message people over the internet if there's wireless everywhere. and facebook and gmail let you call people, or just video call over the internet with the phone.

The streaming video doesn't seem to be working for me. Have they made any mention of price? Any in-game footage? Release date?

probably for christmas at the latest. people say 500 on price or apparently cheaper if you buy xbox live and the console at the same time? apparently this happens now. and they're making the stream going to be able to replayed it seems. not digging kinect mandatory.

meh, it's a game console, you know, for gaming. Not an elegant piece of technology that requires a hot and sexy design.

not to mention this seems like something that will always be in "display" below/next to your TV, so the more simple and less distracting the better.

They need to release Xbox one along with cod + halo.

Also, anyone know the deal with old Xbox games? Will the be payable on the new one. Before much news breaks, I need to sell my 360 on eBay.

ok, here are my questions then

- Will xbox 360 games work with it?

- Will my astro gaming headset work with it (a50 model)

- Will my old xbox 360 controllers work with it

- Anyone find out a price range/release date?

It looks sturdy though. I can't tell where the vents are, however if they are the complete right or left top panel and/or back panel of the device, it will probably be pretty efficient at cooling and won't repeat the first gens of the Xbox 360's red ring's. Hopefully it isn't as loud as a jet fighter though.

Bastards.

...but we all know what that means! We can buy all our favorite classics that we already own for the low price of $40 a piece. Woo Microsoft!

I'd complain but I mean...I already have an xbox. If I want to play a 360 game, I'll play it on my 360.

The new console seems like more of a full blown entertainment system rather than just a gaming console

Ill be somewhere at midnight to pick this fucker up when it comes out. didnt watch anything about it read any specs but I want it so im gonna buy it.

Just some copypasta from wired.com

"Quantifying graphical performance is notoriously squishy. That being said, Microsoft touts the Xbox One as delivering 8 times the graphic performance of the 360."

'the Xbox One boasts 5 billion to the 360’s 500 million. More concretely, those paltry 512 MB of memory have been boosted to 8 GB."

Now for you camera nerds

"It’s essentially like turning each pixel of the custom-designed CMOS sensor into a radar gun, which allows for unprecedented responsiveness. - even in a completely dark room."

yeah, holy fuck.

and for the lazy

"In fact, the Kinect will be used for that most fundamental of tasks: turning the whole thing on. Xbox One utilizes multiple power states; it can thus ramp up as needed and consume different amounts of juice depending on use, whether games or movies. And it also possesses a low-power standby mode, allowing Xbox Live and game updates to be pushed to the Xbox One overnight — or whenever the box knows your usage is lowest — without keeping the console all the way on. (Don’t worry; you can still play a single-player game without being connected to the Internet.) It also means that when you walk into your room and say “Xbox on,” the Kinect sensor hears you and turns on your entire setup via infrared blast: TV, Xbox One, even your cable box."

some xbox and tv

"Because of that direct pipe from your TV provider to the Xbox One, you can watch TV with varying degrees of Xbox overlay. It can look exactly like your plain old TV interface, being controlled with the original remote. Alternately, you can use Xbox’s electronic programming guide, which presents a lineup based on your favorite channels or tells you what your friends are watching and can be controlled via voice, gesture, and game controller. Or, thanks to Xbox SmartGlass, the second-screen functionality that Microsoft introduced in limited capacity last year across multiple mobile platforms, you can use your smartphone or tablet to change channels with a no-look flicking motion."

skype?!

"Skype calls while you’re playing a game? Sure."

all of this from Wired.com

The name goes together with the simple style I think. But I do agree, it could be a lot better

I guess since a new generation was coming out they decided to use a new game engine instead of the same one from 2006.

They suck. so much.

I didn't read much about it, but it sounds like it will be much more than a gaming system. It looks like an awesome media center. It has 3 operating systems and other features for multitasking with games and other apps I guess.

I never understood this diskgate.

I've had two xbox 360's since day one and not one scratched disk, why? I don't move something that has a fragile piece of plastic inside spinning at 9000 RPM (Can't be bothered to look up, 9000 always sounds as a good figure.)

People who had scratched disk must have moved it somehow.

it will store all games and movies right away. I was just listening to a radio show on the MN sports station here where they have a weekly gaming thing. guy from some magazine and a guy who previously worked for xbox were on.

problem is, some games are supposedly close to 50GB, so are some blue rays, but there's only a 500GB HD not including operating space...so do the math. they'll have to come out w a bigger HD at some ridiculous premium, similar to iphones - 100$ for each increase in memory.

you guys see the fantasy football thing partnered w the NFL? shit is crazy.

i agree they could have made it look cooler but whatever. ill probably buy one for college next year. im kind of pissed that its not xbox 360 games compatible.

this is always overlooked but its really sad.

People say "Oh I will just play the games on 360 on my 360" but really who does that. Maybe with retro systems or something that is actually unique (Wii even though I'm not a fan sort of fits this). If you look after the 360 came out, everyone massively sold off their old xboxs for the new thing.

So Microsoft is just going to sell digital download titles for the Xbox One and make more money off of games you probably already own or have owned in the past.

For Nintendo to do this for older systems for honestly not that much isn't a bad thing as those systems run off cartridges and the graphics are drastically different. But for recent consoles they have had the same medium for game delivery and shouldn't have an excuse for it to be not backwards compatible. besides the company wanting to further edge out the used game market and make more money off old games.

Regardless I not going to buy either of the systems as I'm going the PC route.

This is what I'm worried about. I dont play enough video games to justify buying a new system, but I do still play COD or Halo occasionally online and don't want the amount of online players dying off.

it would be, but I mean...are you planning on burning your xbox360 the day the new one is released? By not allowing old games to play on the new one they aren't taking anything away from you.

You already have the games. You already have the console. If you want to play a 360 game, play it on the 360.

I am very excited about the partnership with the NFL. Just when I thought fantasy football couldn't get any better.

then unplug one when you aren't using it.

I'd rather have a console released in 2013 capable of playing advanced games from 2014, 2015, 2016 and so on than have it play games from 2008.

just to spite everyone they should make it backwards compatible to the original xbox, but not the 360

anyone know if you will be able to transfer progress? like if i get ghosts for 360 get like prestige 3, will i be able to move on with my progress or will i have to restart?

It seems to have all the bells and whistles, but I find it disconcerting that the reveal predominantly focused on all the features besides gaming. This is a gaming console, and people who play videogames will buy it. Microsoft if always just one step behind. The ps3 had bluray. Since I was a xbox 360 owner I went and bought a seperate cheap bluray player so it seems redundant for me to pay for features I don't need since Microsoft forced my hand into buying two machines.

Plus, I don't need the Connect deal or whatever. With this focus on Internet/TV inter-connectivity they will just be charging up the ass for any little tidbit of DLC, plus your XBL subscription fee. Kind of like Gato pointed out with the lack of backwards compatability.

I just can't wait for the shouting matches over what channel to watch, with the poor xbox one stuck in the middle flashing back and forth.

microsoft is a joke. i had my second xbox go down on me so i switched and got a ps3 a couple days ago, even though the ps4 is coming out relativley soon. i heard its projected to be upwards of 700$ soo ill wait for that price to come down thankyou.
