I haven't done it but there's lots of places to get instructions online.

* Transfer files to and from your Xbox's hard drive
* Rip DVDs to a shared network drive to play later or backup
* Watch DVDs sans "dongle" (no more DVD Playback Kit required!)
A friend of mine even had his set up so he could just burn the games onto the hard drive so he didn't need the disk. He could just rent games for a day and put them on the hard drive.
Sounded pretty cool to me, and I was planning on doing it to mine, just got distracted and never got around to it.
