A rare exceptionally good take from [tag=129479]@X_ANKILLA[/tag]

You can always have both

Warren Miller did this and set generations of great people free. Free to be who they wanna be. He’s dead n they’re still jerkin him for it.

Besides, this dudes clearly having the worst transition to Old Head of all time and we shouldn’t entertain it anymore.

He didn't get the message that the most important asset in life is your skis. The key to happiness

Funny thing is he will never be anything in whatever his career choice is, he will never have enough money to be free, he might have a girl for a while, but he will never have any remarkable assets either.

Update me on this in 50 years

Ur such a gooner, why u prayin on his downfall even if he drinks piss n stuff

Honestly not hating but not even sure what he's trying to say honestly. Like people that go to hood and camp for the summer? Idk, that shits pretty tight honestly. Maybe some random other dig? Idk, I guess at least it's not racist/homophobic. So probably a win

What working a couple years at Whole Foods does to a mf. Nah Fr though, I think posting yourself using racist slang all across the internet for years is a much better long term career decision than spending a few years living out a van. Imagine if your colleagues found out you were into van life, could end your professional career.

Idk man, I understand what he’s saying but some of the chillest/cool dudes I know are ski bums hahaha. If thats what truly makes you happy and you’re a good dude I don’t see a problem with it, as long as you aren’t delusional and be a bum to avoid responsibility

That's pretty ironic coming from the dude who invests in scams, works at whole foods, has no upward mobility in life and was never good at skiing.

I’m so jealous of some of my ski bum friends. My homie has the star link and can work remote anywhere. He got like 200 days this year!

You either stay a ski bum and live the life broke.

Or you can get a career and spend your whole life trying to put yourself in a position to live like you did as a ski bum.

Pick your poison.

Word. The glory days syndrome sucks, always being nostalgic about what could have been or what you had as a ski bum, to the point of self pity. It's good to find new opportunities and new priorities, and just be thankful for the opportunities to ski that had and may still get; like a single bc trip with some homies or a spring day at the park with some night skiing to boot. Find purpose to teach some kids without the old head attitude, keep up with the guys who keep skiing hard, watch what Keegan, Faelan and Forre put out. It can be fulfilling to have less

Honestly jealous of people who work remote. Well those who use it properly. I think it's wild that people work fully remote and never go anywhere. There's good internet pretty much everywhere these days. I would endlessly travel if I had a remote job.

I've figured out how to travel pretty well on my meager snow pushing job and that's been cool though. But for real, if all you need is internet fuck. There are sooo many amazing cheap countries you could explore and people just sit in some bullshit overpriced apartment in America. It doesn't make sense to me.

200 days is sick. I been slacking

Not sure what he’s really saying but praising someone for living how they want to live is totally valid imo

agreed. it's wild how many people will sacrifice an education, their future, and a well paying career just to ski for a few years in their 20's.

Yes, because everyone has the opportunity to be more than a lower or even middle class citizen. The reality is that the majority of the population doesn't have the connections, intelligence, luck, or the privilege to be anything more than middle class. In the US the lower and middle class make up 79% of the population, so why bother putting in the effort and dedicating yourself to the grind when it won't materialize into anything?

To the original post, I feel that being a ski bum is extremely trendy and resonates with the rich young folk to the point that most "bums" I see or meet are actually fairly well off and any real bums are being pushed out of the scene as the trend causes aspects of the ski bums lifestyle to skyrocket to unaffordable prices for those trying to live off a lower income.

one of the main advantages of leaving my ski resort job, becoming a guest instead of an employee, is that i get to ski when i want. no more missing pow days or feeling obligated to show up when sick just because i need the hours.

also, aside from a few department heads or corporate higher-ups (jobs i wouldn't want anyway), it is a seasonal job without particularly high pay.

instead, i've spent the last 10+ years working for the same company, slowly building my skills and value to my clients and employer. as a result, i can actually have my own place and afford to buy new gear my when my old stuff is blown out.

am i driving a lambo? no. do i have a 4 bedroom house with a 3 car garage? no.

do i get first chair on every pow day? fuck yes

just one way to go about it

i disagree just because if you go this route youre changing that opportunity from a 5% chance to 0%.

and unless you just hate your life , i don't think its worth it work hourly jobs until you're 80 years old because you chose to ski 150+ days a year in your 20's

because the alternative is ski just 50-60 days a year and have the insurance and benefits of a 401k retirement fund and building a well paying career.

people like this are literally the 70 year old guys you see working at walmart because they can't retire. its not worth it

Dudes who work construction all summer to stack street clips all winter are BUMS and SOYBOYS

REAL MEN sit behind a desk in an air conditioned office and invest in NFTs and DOGECOIN

keep trying to justify your blue collar work, bud. it's literally proven by statistics that white collar jobs make more money.

Bro is saying this but works at whole foods and has beef with 14 year olds for his insta page

L Take, just be happy if someone is content in life. Don’t take out someone’s flame cause you’re miserable

Definitely not skiing how I did in college, but also am happy as hell with what I’m doing now. I do miss going multiple days a week vs once a week plus occasional weekend trips.

I’d never shame someone for doing what they love. I do miss the three years I bummed, but I also personally didn’t like scrounging for rent money and unexpected vet bills. Not saying it can’t be done but didn’t work for me.

Key note, if you want to ski bum don’t get pets.

Niether of us are in a position to dictate what is or isn't worth it in life to a complete stranger, let alone an elder.

I think your viewpoint is a little nieve. You assume too much and too little of people at the same time.

Being specific, how many elderly ski bums are out there that wish they could take it all back? Just because you value a monetary safety net doesn't mean that everyone else should or does. And again, for those wanting that safety net, the option isn't there for all of them regardless of how hard they work (I know it's a difficult concept to grasp, but if you just work a bit harder I'm sure you'll figure it out).

Blue collar work isn't only essential but in todays economy pays better than a ton of white collar jobs lol. My finance friends are all moving back in with their parents because they're either out of work or can't afford to live on their own, my blue collar friends are looking at buying houses.

So far every homeowner I’ve met in their 20s works blue collar

Talm'bout them illegal immigrants b.

Not sure what you are trying to convey here but anyone worried about having their job “stolen” just sucks at their job. If somebody with minimal education and English skills can do your job better than you, that’s your own fault lmao. And this is coming from someone who is currently a farm worker and spent multiple years in construction

We all know xankillas broke as fuck lmao, it’s always the dudes with the worst bank account #’s giving financial advice

aint nobody buying them weird ass acid paintings or retard clothes.

it is a solid take tho tbh just hypocritical as fuck coming from xandemic. Do what makes u fulfilled at the end of the day, ur gonna spend 70% of ur life working u might as well not want to blow ur brains out while doing it. If that means being a scumbag park crew dungeon lord, have at it man, shape those jumps and get paid. Who am I to judge

Disrespecting the trades / service industry is the most entitled little summer ski camp prick shit I’ve seen on this website.

Money isn’t everything hot shot. I know more depressed rich folk finance dudes than I do blue collar electricians. Working in an office with cornballs fucking sucks

not to mention 90% of kids I went to high school with who went to get bachelors degrees in business or whatever the fuck are baristas/waiters. Again nothing wrong with being a waiter, just saying if u think a degree is gonna guarantee success ur wrong.

meanwhile all my trades homies are buying houses in their mid/late 20s, going on month long vacations every year. And 75% of them enjoy their jobs quite a bit

the amount of debt u assume from a college degree can penalize u for life. Ur probably not aware of this based on the ignorant ass comment u just made, I’m assuming ur parents pay ur tuition/bills.

im saying this as someone with a college degree btw, not knocking school at all, but just like anything in this world, what’s right for you might not always be what’s right for the next guy. Making more money does not equal more fulfilling job. I didn’t start college til 23 and I’m glad because if I had started at 18 I would have got some bs degree I hated and would most likely be having a quarter life crisis like the rest of em.

^This is merely just commentary about your hypocritical comment and I am explaining this in the hopes that it doesn't go over your head.

He never disrespected white collar work, just you.

I think it's silly to argue about lifestyles tbh. Everyone has different preferences.

On blue collar vs white collar, one is not better or more worth it than the other. It just depends on what your preferences are. Some people like working in the Mines in Australia, some people don't. Some people like working in retail and enjoy customer facing jobs (its a big hell no from me though). I know people from both white and blue collar than bought houses in their 20s but they sacrificed a lot to be able to do it and not without a bit of family help as well.

They say comparison is the thief of joy, after all.
