X games drops Moto X and Snowmobile Freestyle

I think its a good choice, the best trick events aren't like ski or snowboard big air at all. Guys are hopping on dirt bikes and just hitting jumps into foam pits to do one trick at summer xgames, its stupid. Skiing/snowboarding on the other hand you can't just slap a pair of skis on and hit a water ramp and then go compete at xgames. I don't think they'd take out ski/snowboard big air if someone died because its so much different.

That being said, I'm glad they haven't taken the motor sports out completely. It's a big piece of xgames that generates a shit ton of revenue. It's almost sad though because without best trick, would travis have ever done a dub back? that is easily one of the most epic xgames moments i can remember (other than thawk 900). It's not like the people entering snowmobile/moto best trick aren't aware they could die doing that contest, so I dunno if this removal of the contests was completely necessary. They couldve made the process to qualify for the event more difficult or only excepted riders who had many years of experience, etc.

Oh well I suppose.

With your first statement, I think we're starting to see a little bit of this in skiing and it's a shame. Look at those asian rollerbladers who slapped on skis and are now training for olympic halfpipe. Same sorta thing... you can tell they have no edge control, but can huck their shit off of a wall.

Watching Tony Hawk's 900 was fucking epic, same w/ Travis' dub back... and I don't skateboard or moto. It's a bummer that some of these moments will be missed going forward and I agree that most of these guys know the risks. Hopefully they fill these voids with other stuff people really want to see.

I don't see why they are doing this to Moto best trick, that's an incredible comp. The snowmobiling I understand but whatever.

That article pissed me off though they were a lot of thing in there I disagree with.

Before kids start thinking they were taken out because of the crash this year, shut the fuck up. The crash didn't happen during a best trick event, best tricks have always been on the bubble because they're really not a discipline. With the multiple X-Games stops now, it's not something they can realistically expect athletes to focus on when they have the whole season left in the year. Among other reasons including ratings and other sports/disciplines coming in, Caleb's crash was only a very small part of why they made that decision.

Personally, I think best trick type events advance their respective sports. They have also created some of the most memorable X Games moments. Dropping these events is a huge mistake IMO.

people take the tricks they land in a single trick comp and then work to bring them to a full run. While the sport is in fact very dangerous, all competitors understand the risks or they wouldnt be there. I think there was a lot of pressure from the general public who doesnt understand these sports fully. and by general public im referring to corporate sponsorship dollars..

Because someone always gets hurt during moto best trick. Last year it was the front flip guy, the year before was pastrana etc etc.

Pastrana did the double backflip a few years ago in the regular moto run event too. Like three years after he did the best trick version.

Best trick is the best event but oh well.

The only times I've ever heard of a snowmobile going upside down before x games was if someone wrecked theirs and got extremely injured... I don't think they should drop it from the X-Games, but I do think the people doing it are crazy. If a bunch of guys know the high risk of doing tricks on a snowmobile and still wanna do it then let them.

That was Jim Dechamp a few years ago, he's a prof. MTBer so it's not surprising he didn't land one since he never even came close on a BMX or MTB. It was more of a dare on their end, that's how fucked they are. Oh yeah Pastrana never did the double during a regular moto run event... whatever the fuck that means.

And best trick was never the pinnacle of moto. Travis did the double months before the one in X-Games and almost every new trick has been pioneered out with their buddies, not in a comp. setting. You're fucking stupid if you think that because the X-Games doesn't award a medal for doing something new, that no one ever will have the motivation to try it.

Exactly this.

I think that there's way lower of chance that big air will be taken out compared to some of these motor sports. Skiing/snowboarding has way more depth when it comes to big air than any of the motor sports in the freestyle scene. Each year, skiers/snowboarders can improve on little things like grabs, landings, how clean it looks in the air, and then finally, number of rotations. I feel that in sports such as freestyle snowmobiling, there's a lot less smaller aspects to improve on from year to year, pressuring riders to just huck for more and gnarlier rotations which usually just leads to injuries. ...not to mention they are tossing a few-hundred-pound machine over their head.

they didnt have a problem with injuries in 2001.. man.. people are soo sensitive now..
