X-Games course thoughts?

I like it. I think it's well done has great flow and still has some very creative lines. Jumps have plenty of speed. I wish more places mixed up the setup in terms of placement though. It makes sense but get's bland when every contest is 2 or 3 rails then 3 or 4 jumps. I like the ones that mix up the flow a bit.

The problem is that Buttermilk is a really short course. They can't spread the jumps out which means they can't put rail features between them. It also doesn't help that the rail section at the top is actually really steep. I think if they started higher up they could extend the rail section a bit, have one jump, then another rail, then the last 3 jumps.

It bums me out how standardized the jumps are getting. From time to time people will design courses with a hip, shoulder jump, or some sort of transition. I think slopestyle should be more than a couple "unique" rails and 3 standard jumps. I realize that for tv purposes and spectators you need to have a course that is straight forward and easily viewed but I want some style and flow.

Yeah. Thats a small example of something a little different. I just feel people are getting so good at hitting standard jumps that they need to change up the jump styles to make things more unique and interesting.

There was a hip jump at x games a few years back too. It might have been the same year as the butter pad that TJ Schiller rodeo 5'd.

What about one of these regular jumps but with a bonk? Something like 4 barrels stacked high.

I'm talking about something like a step up to hip landing to step down. Something that makes people change the way they do hard tricks.

It's true for most big jump lines worldwide...you'd have to change it up in the summer to get a new course. X games is the wrong venue to fiddle with course design cause it's so squashed in there.

I would have to disagree with "world-wide"

I know for a fact Aspen is, cause i have seen it with my own eyes.

As for other places.... Mammoth? No, Breck? No.

Aside from the jumps, the rail section is pretty sick.

Wall rides are a good idea, but I think they could have gotten a bit more creative with them.

Those tits are tits.

I remember when you would find hips, 1/4s and other stuff in the slope course. Not saying they always flowed that well but the sports seems to be getting more and more set.

This is what a course looks like, these are the required tricks kind of thing. It's funny that at the same time the rail sections are getting much more involved though.

Agreed, I'm not trying to diss the ladies at all, but quite frankly I'm a little scared to see the woman's slope. Don't get me wrong there's plenty of ladies like Dev, Keri & Kaya that will have no problem slaying them but I'm a little worried about some of the less experienced competitors. In past years theres been tons of injuries in the ladies field and the jumps were not this big. There should definitely be a second set of takeoffs that are ten feet shorter or something like that.

Otherwise I think the course is really sick. I agree it would be nice if the jumps had more variation but honestly these jumps look so perfect. There's no other course that has jumps this nice so I'm totally fine with them all being standard tables. As someone else mentioned I did love the channel they used to do and I really miss step down hips but alas.

I def think the jumps should stay as is, no "ladies tee" as it were. I know tons of guys that are smaller and weigh less than some chix still makin it happen.

I mean they used to. I'd hit the booters there though. I feel like if you're a pro in slope you should like big jumps. The landing seem long and steep enough where speed shouldn't be a problem clearing them.

I don't think the jump size has really changed much in the last few years. I didn't see the sizes listed but they look pretty standard for X.

I know there might be more ladies throwing down bigger tricks if they weren't scared but it's still a pro contest. There are def some that can throw down on the big jumps. I guess it's a work in progress. Hopefully the next gen of women can throw it down on the big jumps.

Honestly not against them throwing a smaller side on some of them or all of them. Don't really care either way. Let them have what they want.

i for one think this course is WAY sicker than last years. the rail section seems super sick, tons of options. hopefully people will actually utilize them instead of doing the classic 2 on 2 off on a down bar

How come they don't have quarter pipes at the end anymore, if that was even a thing? I feel like it used to be more common? Maybe not though.

I think I'm most excited to see what people do with the boxes/pole to wallrides. Def has good flow. They've def been building in more wild stuff with the rails the last few years.

I just hope the rail tricks count for something. Sometimes I feel like people who throw down on the rails don't get rewarded any more than the people who coast through that section.

Was going to ask this but as I read your post it hit me. Guessing it is because it blocks the spectator viewing are at the bottom.. Granted just move it to the side but

i love the rails this year and the jumps dont look that big they just look super floaty with nice well built long landings. i would love to see a double sided hip at the end that you can take all the way over thovex style

Yeah I thought about that. But just move them to the side and they've got a great view of it, closer than any of the jumps or rails.

slopestyle courses themselves need to have style. and im all for the big jumps but maybe that should be big air and slopestyle jumps be smaller and more unique.

this would be sick, a rail section in to a step down in to step up...which turns 90 degrees into a rail section and finally a massive hip wallride feature. the course would be hip shaped, highy viewable and flowable.
