So my friend and I were speaking the other day and he told me that every 1500 years or so, there just isn't a winter. He told me it was something call the quad-centennial-thaw. I am minority freaking out because I just loveeee skiing. It was cold for one week then there has been a warm front. Tell tale signs of a quad-centennial-thaw.

+++++K if you know anything about this!!!

Thanks ns friends!

It feels like winter is never gonna come by me,we still got 40 and 50 degree weather with tons of rain, it sucks.

yeah like i heard the the ice and snow is just gonna like melt before it even falls out of the clouds,i mean whats up with that.

I'd be more concerned about the polar switch than missing out on one winter. we're well overdue, and it could have seriously negative effects on our technology, health, and ecosystems.

That would be neat if it somehow reversed the direction of mantle circulation and starting rifting mid continent instead of mid ocean.

this is true. it's actually every 200 or so years that temps will rarely dip below the freezing point in most north american cities (aside from alaska and northern quebec). the last time this happened was in 1813 during what became known as "the great north american second harvest". at the time, it was considered a great blessing as most of north america experienced a shitty crop yield during the fall. ask your history teacher about it.

don't worry though, i'm sure there will be some man-made snow so mountains will open at least for the holiday weeks.

it seems like its been forever since winter.. and feels like it could never come. we are just struggling between 0-7 degrees.

fucking rain.

Man I think your buddy is right!

Either that or there is too many gingerkids. Gingerkid flame hair is heating up the earth and its atmosphere abd exaggerating global warmings effects this season.

well i just googled quad centennial thaw and this thread was the first thing that came up soooo im gonna just go out on a limb and say its not real...

For real we are in a solar maximum and the activity for late 2011 was some of the most intense on record. That is undoubtedly the reason why this season has been wacky. There is a minor earthbound cme headed toward us now that should hit sometime tomorrow but after that the sun has gone pretty much silent. I had figured this may happen late jan which if it stays silent and we get that la Nina moisture it should give us a pretty banner feb-early march. I'm thinking around the first and second week of march though it's going to ramp back up and given this peaks track record we could potentially see a carrington type event in late spring early summer. Keep the good vibes goin and maybe we will get a decent end to our season.
