I saw some pictures yesteday in some magizine and since when are telemarkers sliding rainbow rails and hitting 60 footers? not really sure why anyone would want to have their heels unattached from their bindings just buy a real pair of skis.

Go fuck yourself. Tele skis are really skis. I ride Pocket Rockets those are really skis.

As far as the newschool telemarking thing goes it' not something new. I've been hitting the park ever since we got one about 5 years ago. Do you live in a cave somewhere where there are no good telemarkers. Granted there aren't a lot of us but how is this new to you. The best person right now is Max Mancini and I watched him up the 70 footer at Squaw this season doing 9's. And Lorenzo Worster was doing the smoothest carve cork 3's I've ever seen. I rode with a friend of Peter O's at Hood and that guy was amazing doing all kinds of 540 variations like rodeos, misties, switch and normal and doing 9's in the half pipe.

I have this little friend whos like 10 and he can do nice 3s on his teles.

It takes so much more coordination and sometimes it does look so much cooler. i don't know though, I think I'll stick to alpine skis and if I ever break my ankle or something and need to wear soft boots I'll start telemarking

Yeah man probably one of the sickest things ive seen at my resort in PA is this one tele-jibber on seth pistols straightlining slopes switch. He can do mistys and bios too and ride pipe...thats sooo technical

new school telemarking is amazing to me. it obvioulsy just adds a whole new level of difficulty to everything you do. sure its not practical, but none of the stuff we do really is.

 
new school tele skiers can obviously throw down with alpine bindings as well so it is just that much cooler with tele's I think anyway.

I don't understand why you would telemark inbounds...isn't telemark all about skinning and freeheling for easy access in the BC. Just seems kind of reatarded to me when you get so much more power with your heel locked in. That and nosepresses. Yeah those are good.

I totally totally agree with what skimack said. Theres no real point to have teles inbounds. The point of a freeheel is to tour the backcountry in an efficient manner. I don't see a purpose. This is coming from someone who teleskied(newschool tele) for 5 years. from the time i was about 10 to 15. Its not that much harder than doing the shit with alpine bindings, although it does presest a new degree of difficulty. Then I saw the inefficiency of using telemark skiing to ski. I was sick of it, it wasn't my choice to teleski in the first place, even though i enjoyed skiing more than anything even on tele. So 2 seasons ago i switched to alpine. SOOOOO much better. mostly because when you push yourself to your limits it talks you quite a bit farther than tele can. Also its just more fun launching and landing and not stressing out about eating shit hard. I personally don't like the way tele skiers look in the park. The equipment allows for too much movement and the gap between the heel and the ski looks odd. Minor this but its just my opinion. Also in my opinion, its not that sick. I pretty sure i have the right to take this stance with anyone giving me shit, see how for about 15 years telemarking was my families source of income. My dad designed and sold bindings. If you look at my name in my profile and can't figure out which bindings, you can't call yourself a teleskier. So i've been surrounded by the who's who of the telemark industry since i was a kid. i know my facts. Newschool tele's not gonna go anywhere, how can it. Sports are supposed to design equipment that allows the athletes to push themselves as far as there body will allow and telemarking just has a huge handicap. Im not saying some people don't have alot of fun with, im just saying that its not my thing and it doesn't really get me pumped. I think i've teleskied enough to earn that stance with people yelling at me, but if you want to argue, i'll go round for round. P.S. tele skiing to access the backcountry is sick as shit.

Telemarking has already progessed far beyond what enyone thought possible. Guys like max are doing biger and bigger tricks each year. Sure it's a couple years behind alpine but two seasons ago there were guys doing 450s on to rails just like alpine skiers. There are guys doing huge cork 9s and landing and taking off swith just as weel as alpine skiers. I think the only place we won't be at the level of alpine is landing switch in powder. But personally I've been working on that and It's coming along.

Baker I think you just gave up on telemarking when it got too hard. I too have been doing it since I was a little kid. I've never been on alpine skis and my first two pairs of skis were cros country skis with no metal edges. Sure there are time when I wish I was on alpine skis but it's worth it learning stuff on teles. I love being the only person at my hill landing switch on tele stuff. And going to other hills where people don't know me and watching people's faces when I cruise through the park. It's great to be doing something that there are so few people doing.

With the new gear getting better and better every year more and more people win try teleing and the sport will progress just like alpine skiing.

If you've never been on alpine skis has it ever occured to you to try it...that's the reason I tried snowboarding...it didn't work out but at least I tried it. Alpine opens up a whole new world in the BC as far as how agressive you can ski. Check it out at least once, unless your ankles are messed or something, there's no reason not to.

NOPE! They're just as easy, unless you're doing a nose press. And landing switch, once you figure it out is a breeze. I didn't quit cause it was too hard, i quit because i was sick of the gayness, wanted to push myself further, and i wanted safer equipment.

Note to telestar: My first pair of skiing where also little plastic cross-country skiing when i was two.

This convo is getting stupid. People Tele cause it's different, and hell they enjoy it.

It's like me and whitewater kayaking, I C1, i sit on a saddle and use a canoe paddle in a freestyle whitewater kayak. People ask me why the fuck would you do that if kayaking is easyier, and you can throw down tricks easyier? Well i like it better that's why, and it something slighty different from the norm. There is also a tighter knit community og people doing it. I bet there are hell of alot more cocking retatard newschool skiers out there, than there are newschool tele dudes.

Either Way if poeple enjoy it, and fucking rip it up, then go for it. I could care less what people say, and i could care less about protecting and boosting my ego, or trying to slame someone else's.

Skimack I don't think tele skis are any less aggressive in the BC. Personally I thk a tele turn is better for powder. You center of gravity is lower so you have more control. Also I know how to alpine ski just fine. When I'm tired at the end of the day or it's just plain icey and I don't feel like trying to hold an edge tele I make alpine turns. I'm probably going to share a pair of alpine skis with my friend who snowboards this season so we can both try something different. I fI like it maybe I'll convert but probably not. I learned to tele when I was 9, 12 years ago, and after you put that much effort into something it's hard to give it up.

To all you who say it's gay. I don't get it. It's still skiing. I can do most if not more of the stuff you can do on alpine skis and you'd never know I was on teles if you saw me ski. That is of course until I made a turn.

I understand how some of you have pride in representing telemarking and thats cool but I don't understand it. Explain to me why you want to have your heels unattached? It makes tricks look less steezy and unless you've progresssed to the heighest in freeskiing and can hit any rail and throw any trick, why do you want to make it harder?

I've skiied with telemarkers who are better park skiers than 99% of the people on this site. And that's not an exageration. I might even be a better park skiier than you you never know. You've got not right saying we shouldn't be in the park.

To eastAR5. I ski tele skis because that's what I've always done. I've been telemarking for 12 seasons now so why would I change to alpine? It's not that I started telemarking to ride the park it's the other way around. I've always telemarked and when park skiing started to get popular I want to ski in the park and didn't see any reason why being a telemarker should hold me back. As to your last question, why make it harder, I've asked myself that questin many time figuring I would be better if I was on alpine stuff. But I just love to tele and I never want to give it up.
