WTF happened to video games?

I recently plugged in my N64 and revisted a couple of old favorites. I played Ocarina of Time today for like 4 hours. I dont think i've played for that long since 2002. For that time that game was unbelievable. The landscape, the music, the gameplay, the story are all amazing. I just don't understand why today's games can't be as good as the ones from way back. It seems like every game that comes out today is either a sports game or a shooting game. Like seriously how many fucking shooting games have come out in the last couple years. I honestly couldn't give a fuck about how great multiplayer is, how nice the graphics are, or how big of an explosion your imaginary gun makes. I found that I didn't stop playing video games because I outgrew them, but rather because they began to suck. I also realize that some games that do come out these days may be fun but just have less appeal to me so I'm not hating on everything that comes out. So if you're a fan of games from ye olden times post your favorite old school game.

Oblivion?? ever play it??

other than that i never play video games, so idk man.

but back in the day, chillin with the GB, pokemon and megaman were dope as fckkk

i was playing some new mario game on the wii and you can push a button so everything turns 3D and then walk by all the obstacles. WTF, completely ruined a classic

Pokemon and metabots were so sick, my little cousin got the new pokemons and I beat the four people at the end for him haha it brought me back

very solid game for sure. I as well recently reconnected my N64 and SNES, so much more fun then playing halo or COD! I love these games because there is so much depth and so much that you can accomplish away from the main storyline

Ocarina of Time was one of my favorites for N64. Its easily a candidate for best game of all time.

OoT is the best n64 game, and has my vote for best video game. it was so revolutionary. i always play it. majoras mask was just too difficult. a different kid of hard though, twilight princess is tough, but it's still doable. majoras mask gave me nightmares. the master quest OoT is pretty cool, i suggest you guys download it. the temples are all different and hard, especially the infamous water temple.

i just got the original style side scrolling ps3 verison of street fighter 2 hd for 15 bucks on the ps3 store, played it like 5 hours straight with friends getting tanked on the 4th, so much fun

OoT is actually a pretty mediocre RPG compared to some of the Square JRPGs of the time. To the guy who mentioned oblivion, yeah that's great for what it is, but Bethesda doesn't know how to write an actual plot. As evidenced by their screwing the pooch on Fallout 3.

No game from my childhood has taken over my life as much Golden Eye 007 did...2x2 multiplayer was rediculous. Power weapons in the Complex baby

Honestly it took me so long to finish kingdom hearts, the playback was not as enjoyable. Plus the second one was god awful compared to the first, IMO.

Ocarina of Time

Super Smash Brothers (the original)

Mario Kart

Goldeneye

Almost once a year I'll go back and play through all my favorite N64 games. Theyre so much more fun then the games that r made today.

the new one is gonna be awesome, its for ds but the graphics are sweet and the cutscenes are beautiful

oblivion is great, and little big planet is a great game, they need more games like that. Too many zombie games and shooting games and racing games. Nothing is original anymore just refinements to other games

the last system I owned was a gamecube, and I only bought one game for it.

I don't really play any video games unless they're for 64; smash bros., perfect dark, DK64, stars wars podracing... etc

I think the most recent game I beat or even played somewhat seriously was halo 2 a couple summers ago with my cousin.

Video games lately have been focusing so much on realism and being complex, you can't just sit down with your buddy and "pick up" Modern warfare like you could with 007.

yo, its all about super mario world on SNES. but I gotta say ocarina of time and majoras mask where the shit.

If you guys have the ambition, you can download prettymuch all of these old games with emulators. i have a ton actually lol, even though i only play a few of them.

street fighter collection

zelda: O.o.T

007: goldeneye

like 500 snes games, including street fighter 2, and mortal kombat, mega man something.

its a bonus if you have a controller for your computer though, or else it doesnt feel the same.

Going have to agree with that one.

Someone also mentioned the Megaman games. They were so sick, both on NES and SNES.

Lastly, has anyone ever heard of SnoBros for the NES? Such a fun game. One of my favorites. If you've played it you definately know what I'm talking about.

this chick was gonna give me her super nintendo because she was moving, and she said she 'accidently' threw it out.not happy.

word. i just borrowed this from my friend for gamecube...not gonna lie its probably my favorite game i have ever played. not only is it fun and action packed but it also has a good plot line which many new video games lack. i'm at the sky city place right now. and its sick

emulators are how i got threw boarding school years ago... even though we werent supposed to have them. You can get any classic and then some with emulators. I played my SNES last fall and for some odd reason, it was very addicting. Even Dreamcast was. Dont know what happened to that :(.

yeah Ocarine of Time I think is the best video game of all time, until something else replaces that position. Halo 3 deserves a ton of credit though but ocarina of time was PERFECT in every way. the music is supreme

i'm a retro games addict

i have every nintendo console ever made, a psone/ps2, sega genesis etc

i play my n64 more than anything else. back then people were more focused on gameplay and story than graphics and multiplayer.

best racing game ever

beetle adventure racing for n64, pick up a copy on ebay it probably wont cost more than 4 bucks and i highly recommend it.

ocarina of time....nuf said...

i still play alot of new games, but they just arent as good as the classics
