I currently own a tokina 11-16 and a kit lens and i want to buy a standard lens which has a zooming feature. I want it to be sharp and have pretty good build quality. What are some lenses like this?

Fixed f/2.8, proper focus ring(compared to the kit lens), filter ring doesn't rotate, good build quality(I've fallen heavily on mine once, at at Least 50kmh. Although one thing to bear(/bare) in mind is the autofocus is not great at all, just quite slow, but it does work. Oh and it's only $300(Abe Krieger is selling one on here) and its pretty sharp.

If you shoot Nikon (which I doubt since this is NS) Id have one for sale as well. They are quite a nice versitile lens for a great price. Id also recommend the 17-50, I just have so much overlap that I need to cut some lenses..

ya, normally I would suggest something wider, but 35 is pretty good and he has the 11-16. I would suggest a decently fast legacy prime to go with it though, like a 28mm or 35mm f2

You still haven't said what you're needing in this lens, speed? Fast autofocus? What will you be using it for, photo/video, and where mainly.

I have a t2i so im gunna need a canon lens.

I honestly dont know what the difference in 'speed' is between 2 lenses (id be nice if someone could explain)

Ill be using this lens around the mountain in daylight but also in summer taking pictures of interesting things.

70% photo 30%video

You don't need a canon lens, you don't even need a canon mount lens(although they'll be the only ones that'll easily autofocus).

You know aperture right? f/1.4 is a faster lens than f/2, lets in more light.

Exclusively daylight? you might not need 2.8 then, and if you're taking mainly photos you could find the 24-105 a good lens, f/4, a suitable focal length for you, fast autofocus(or so I've heard(usm)), also has an image stabilizer which would be nice for handheld shots when you're not shooting fast sports.
