maxtor is good i got one pluged n right now an wht are u planing on putting on it depends on the shit i save all my photo shop work on mine an i got a 80 gig an still alot of free space

i hav a wd one and it works really well. the only thing i noticed is that it wont work with a usb port splitter which plugs into one usb port and makes 4 usb ports. its really nice and easy to carry around though!

As for advice, what are you storing on it? That will decide how big. Get one with firewire if you care about transfer speed and your computer has a firewire port.

You should look on Newegg.com

I own two 1tb Cavalry brand externals, and they have both worked fine for over a year.

Newegg has amazing deals, coupons, extra warranty options, etc. And they have huge amounts of customer reviews on everything.

Honestly though, brands do not mean much. Look at how many reviews the drive has, and how good the reviews are. That should be the main factor in your purchase decision, THEN price.

definitely get yourself a WD i've never heard of any major or common problems that they have and they last really well.

go for 1TB and that should be enough for quite a while, over here (australia) you can pick them up for just over $100 AUD

not in australia you didn't. gotta take into account higher demand and competition in the US plus the exchange rate, everything is more expensive over here (except for holdens)
