Would you wear a back protector?

like one meant for MTB, while park skiing?

just had the thought and like what situation would that come in handy? like maybe if you split a rail and slide back it might make hits to the back a little less harsh? or like in a street setting on a stair set rail?

I wear a poc air vest, it’s not obstructive and does help when you land on your back. I think an mtb one would get in the way

Yea that’s smart, I got a RaceFace one for mtb with the D30 material, that shit gets so firm and uncomfy when it’s cold so I do not think it’d be a good time to wear

Already do wear one, couple years ago took a 30 foot jump to my back and decided it’s probably a good idea to have one. I’ve got a slytech, fairly comfy and keeps me warm and doesn’t limit mobility. pretty sure henrik used to be partnered with them

I’m always cruising with a back protector and POC vpd hip pads. Took a double straight to the back and just kinda bounced right up

Damn might be a worthy investment. I’m 24 so not necessarily at the point where I wanna push myself too hard without decent protection on cuz I don’t wanna have a season ender. By no means I feel old I just don’t wanna get fucked and then feel old afterwards lol

Never skied with one, but was surprised how non-obtrusive the POC one was when I tried it on... Def wouldn't wear my Fox downhill protection...

Yeah dude it’s an incredible investment. Been using hip pads since I was 14 and it’s saved me from plenty of pain over the past 5 years

These are money esp on ice coast, makes bailing on jumps sm safer when you know you can just take shit to your back and not shatter your spine

I have the POC VPD system back which is both, you remove the chest plate for skiing. I see it more as a freeride thing, where 99.9% of the time you take huge slams on softer snow and 0.1% you find a rock that really messes you up, but I still wear it in the park mostly because I already have it. If I skied any real urban Id def want it there, stairs to the back sounds brutal

POC crash pants are the best investment I’ve ever made. I’m old and fat now. When I bail on a flat box going 3mph in front of my wife I feel less shame and pain.

It makes sense for Freeride skiing, and it's also required by IFSA to compete so its not a bad idea honestly, considering backslaps and all, but also protective gear that doesn't penetrate the skin sounds like a good idea when you're skiing big gnarly lines with exposure, lots of rocks, lots of things that can kill you, etc.

i've said this b4 but the first time i wore won i hit my back into a tree, nothing bad but probably prevented a nice little bruise. haven't worn it yet but will once the season picks up.
