Would you come Dec 17th-23rd vs. Christmas Break?

I just looked at how the year lays out and it appears as though I can go on vacation either before or after Christmas.

I was thinking of heading out to SLC even earlier this year (like the 17th to the 23rd). Missing the Christmas crowds and also trying to save a few bucks on fare.

But then I think....there sometimes isn't even enough snow on New Years yet alone mid-December (some years better than others like this year). So now I sit and consider....come early and risk less snow pack (A WHOLE WEEK EARLIER) but on the plus side I miss the massive crowds at the resorts.

Just tell me what the no brainer idea is

Planning a vacation is always hit or miss. This year some of the best

skiing was had over Thanksgiving and January was the worst month of the

year. If I were you I would go for less crowds. The difference in

snow pack will most likely be negligible.

That is pretty much what I was thinking, but I was looking for confirmation from locals that things are pretty dead pre-christmas and the snowpack isn't much different.

I thought really what is 8 days further in to the season going to do for the snowpack? But then again I remember NYE 2010 and people saying "this is it, finally we got enough to get everything open", BUT ON THE FLIP SIDE the crowds were insane those days.

I think for a change I will take the week off before Christmas. It will be really sweet to see the Alta, Brighton, Snowbird before Christmas when everyone is out.

In fact I remember during Xmas break in 2010 that Brighton's lot was so full they told people to turn around heh.

Yeah...why the hellll would I want to deal with that.
