Would this binding setup work?

I have a pair of some Salomon Z12s laying around and until I get money for good pow ski bindings I was gonna toss them on my 122 waist pow skis. The brakes are only like 80 or 90mm so I was gonna buy some 115mm (the widest salomon makes) brakes. I called the shop to see if they could mount them and the guy said I need new bindings because the Z12s can't handle a brake that wide.

Is he full of shit? I don't know why salomon would make a 115 brake if the binding couldn't handle it. Should I just order the brakes and get them mounted somewhere else?

Theres quite a difference between 80mm and 115mm brakes so i think i'd trust the guy. If the brakes are cheap then i'd give it a try though

that guy is full of shit. i've swapped wide brakes into older salomon brake housing a countless number of times. It takes 5 seconds. The only thing you gotta do is buy wide brakes. Any tech worth his salt can do it no problem. If they cant, get a new shop.

The 115mm brake arms may fit, but they may have the wormscrew heel brake housing. If that's the case, then you just have to swap out the brake arms. It's really simple and takes about a minute.

But if he's talking about the binding itself not being able to handle a wide ski, I think he's full of crap. I personally wouldn't ski a Z12/STH12, but lots of people out there do.
