Worth pulling the all-nighter?

Trying to decide...quantum chemistry and biochemistry exams back to back tomorrow starting at 9am. Still unprepared, mostly making this thread out of boredom cause I've been studying for hours and hours straight.

Thoughts?
 
no, get to bed and get some rest. once you're within 24 hours of the test, a good night's rest is gonna help a lot more than studying for hours on end. if you know it, you know it. if you don't, you don't.
 
but in all seriousness, just do what I do. Stay up all night studying for the test, then accidentally fall asleep and sleep through it.
 
This is true...but it is a tough decision. Things just click when I cram which always makes me question what I should do. I seem to be one of the few people I've known where cramming actually works. But yes, the lack of brain function due to losing sleep is hard to say. I might just flip a coin on it.

study that shit up then sleep for like 2 hours wake up and shotgun a redbull. then speed through all your note 10 minutes before the test and you golden. just an opinion tho
 
It totally depends on when the exam is. Before or at 12 go for it, much later than that and i think you should goto sleep.
 
Gotta say I'm pretty surprised I am getting somewhat reasonable responses....it must be past the bedtime of all the regular 14 year old NSG idiots.
 
The adderall response is actually pretty good. That shit is great. Just be careful if you do take it. No more than 20 mg if its your first time
 
all nighters arent all that bad. Getting like 2-4 hours of sleep, that's bad.

I usually have to do about 4 or 5 a quarter, having food, some light, some music, and a routine to keep off fatigue makes it bearable.
 
nah thats not true. if you cram before a test you will remember a lot (provided that you study for few hours at least before the test), but not for too long after. we learned about it in psych class
 
Hmm, maybe thats how you are, but for me if I dont study the night before tests I will do horribly.I guess though OP its whatever works for you.
 
Ya I try not to go to bed I just get so dead at like 4 am...sucks. Still trying to see how I feel, gotta lot of shit to do still tonight.

But ya all about the routine. I do some exercise, pushups and shit like every hour or two, helps big time.

get some rest, then go through your notes 10 minutes before the first exam.

works for me.
 
yah, i think theres probably alot of misinformation on the educators part about this one to try and get people to have good study habits. I think cramming SOMETIMES leaves you better off then just going in.

yea those hours around 4-7am are the hardest (usually 6-7 for me). I just stay away from things like red bull; I love the shit, but makes my stomach get that morning hurt soon after. Just keep eating and drinkin and avoid noticing the time - I always try to keep my working pace as close to a daytime pace as possible, because the fatigue easily sets in if you slow down.

I think during one all nighter is was like late december so it got dark as fuck early and the sun (bright clouds) wasn't noticable till late - i crashed at 5 and slept so hard on a couch at school and it fucked up my work flow bad. I had no music or food, I was about to wretch all over the place; I was ill prepared.
 
Ya man, it is so ridiculous. I dunno how bad yours was, but ours shouldn't even be called chemistry. Since its the higher level here at MSU so to speak it is essentially just knowing how to derive all of the formulas that lead up to Quantum Theory and then later apply them to subatomic particles....the step below this class (for BA majors and non-chem majors) is a joke, they are learning right now about the different particles that make up an atom. BS.

I hate sleeping so I stay awake for days on end, sometimes just for the hard crash.
 
for some reason its always bothered me when people refer to staying up all night as "pulling all nighters" ...i dont really know why.
 
Ya I think I can do it I just don't know...supposed to head to chicago with my gf for the weekend, she'll be pissed if I'm dead all day! haha but school comes first I suppose.
 
my theory is on all nighters is your better off going to bed around midnight, then waking up again at 7am and do some more cramming, the good nights rest is pretty important as well.

never pulled an all nighter myself unless you call drinking 8 40's and not sleeping for 2 days an all nighter. haha.
 
Ended up going to bed around 4:30-5. Woke up, felt ok, ate some food and was feeling good. Took the exams, think I did alright.
 
Ya for sure, thats usually why I try and do a couple hours of sleep and it does seem to help. In the end that is the choice I chose this time.
