Worst Injuries???

On March first I was skiing at Granite Peak in Wisconsin. I overworked a double backflip and landed heavy on my lower spine. I spent a painful night in the ER and ended up with a compressed spine but no other injuries. That injury ended my season this year and trashed my skis(no loss there they were getting replaced anyway).

My question is what is the worst injury that anyone has suffered and how did you come back to skiing or boarding afterwards?

I know that there are a lot worse injuries than broken ribs, but they suck. I broke a few ribs this past season which took a while to heal but its all good now

Over rotated a 9 went directly to my head. I was knocked out for around 5 minutes. Was taken to the hospital in an ambulance shortly. The next day we were supposed to go to Colorado, missed that and 3-4 weeks of skiing.

I had a similar injury two seasons ago. Compressed spine and broken T5 on a back flip to flat. The best advice I can give is hit physical therapy hard and start a workout routine. Coming back and skiing again after my injury was the best feeling I've ever had in my life. I've came out of that injury with much better awareness of my body and a motivation to stay healthy and keep skiing hard.

I never had to go to physical therapy (sometimes I wish I had, I feel like I would have recovered quicker). But I do have a healthier respect for my limitations now. That injury was no joke and when I compressed my spine I actually lost about a half inch in height. Regardless of the injury I still wanted to be skiing. Even when I was in the ambulance I was wishing I was skiing.

I don't always like the ski patrol guys but I was glad to have them around that day.

I used to snowboard when i was like 10 i tried a surface swap on a rainbow box and only got to 90 and just slipped of the end and compressed my spine. not to bad but it sucked its streched back out now.

Jeez take it easy guys be safe out there!!

Hit an unexpected windlip on a pow day last season took a knee to the face and bit thru my tongue. Lucky I haven't had a more serious injury in skiing but I've gotten fucked up outside of skiing tho

Hit a tree and broke femur, tibia, fibula and tore my Achilles. Was back skiing at 2 1/2 months (without doc permission) but it took a long time before I was able to ski hard both physically and mentally. It definitely taught me a lot about my pain threshold and to listen to my body. Tight trees still wig me out a bit and who knows if I will ever get over that, but otherwise I am doing pretty well. I say that once you know the difference between normal aches from your injury and pain that means you are pushing it too much, you'll figure out what you can and can't do during recovery

I haven't had any terrible injury but the worst I've seen is Candide Thovex's crash and although he can't ski park like he used to anymore he's still an incredible skier.
