Worst fail you've ever seen or heard of

I'll start:

At my local mountain there was a big air jump about 20 feet long. Some kid on a snowboard decided to send the big jump. When approaching it he did about fifety speed checks, and proceeded to fall directly onto his arms from a hight of about eight feet. When ski patrol got to him he was laying under the jump unconcious with a broken wrist, a broken arm, and a concussion. The next day the big jump was taken down. The end

One of my friends did a direct backflip to knuckle on his face. he didn't break anything but it was still scary afterwards he was pretty dazed.

People over shooting a landing and dying. Buzz kill, but yeah I'd say that's the worst kind of fail

January, 2007. Copper Mountain, AM slopestyle warm-up, middle line, third hit, about 25' table, fairly small jump maybe 3-4' wedge. This is when Copper refused to have landings, they were all so short. A kid from Crested Butte, Asher Crank, 17 years old, over shot the landing with a switch cork 5 (if I recall) landed on his head/shoulder. I had my entire group (was FS instructor for Choppers) standing on the table of the big line near the judging stand, back when the big line was on the skiers right. He died in transit after they landed the helicopter in the park.

I've seen worse injuries in terms of overall bodily harm, but that's the only one that resulted in death I've actually seen skiing. Sobering experience when I thought about some of the back slaps, wash-outs, and minor injuries I'd had in my younger years overshooting. (Nothing compared to Dumont, sweet Jesus, hate that clip...)

Found some news about it, I didn't know him, this is where I found his name.

Slipped off a really steep uprail while going at like mach 10. Over shot the landing and landed on my ass. Broke my tailbone and knocked the wind out of me really bad.

Local mountain built a "55" foot jump that was more like 35-40 feet but launched you straight up. Taken down a day after they built it cause some inexperienced snowboarder cased it and dislocated both his hips

When I was really young me and my friends were just getting into park and my dad thought it would be cool if he kinda pushed us to hit bigger jumps. Mostly it was 20-30 ft gaps nothing huge but when your young they're scary as fuck. Anyway one weekend my local mountain decided to build a jump that had a take off for a god damn money booter from Breck with only a 30 ft landing and the landing was basically just a steep drop off on the hill. My dad was used to not speed checking for the other jumps so he fuckin sent it from the top of the hill no speed checks, launched off the jump and midair he was about 30 feet above the knuckle and soared for what felt like a solid 6 seconds. never seen someone overshoot so damn far in my life. Looked like big air dave mixed with ski jumping. When he compressed I'm supprised as fuck he wasn't paralyzed. Definitely put him out of the jump game and almost positive he compressed some disks he got a bit shorter after that.

At my home mountain (7 springs) two guys decided to go off of the 50 foot jumps. They both went off the jump at the same time. One of them did an unintentional backflip in the air and landed on the other. Long story short they got to take a helicopter to the hospital. Also I'm pretty sure there was a video of it on jerry of the day.

Thats so unfair they took the jump down just thanks to one jerry, Honestly its his fault for eating it.

I went well beyond the landing of a 40 footer built in nearly flat terrain. I guess park crew was already running toward me before I was even coming down. Yolo.

Friends wanted to inspect the jump. I was like nah thats dumb, send it. First jump of the season, almost last jump.

Only broke 1 vertabre, my femur in a few spots and think that was it. Not bad. For some reason was back skiing wayyyyyy to early after that one but young and dumb'd.

Ive heard of and seen of aome pretty horrible stuff.

On the light side the case to dumble ejecto scorp slide always brings a smile to my face.

I have seen two that have made me cringe. First one VT open Mike Wilson was bombing in to a quarter pipe and sending it, he drifted away from the pipe and went straight down to the ground and knocked himself out for a few mins. Second one was at Jay Peak a kid slipped off the chair and hit a concert tower pad 25 feet below, thats a sound you can never forget.

Hope the guy didn't hit his head on the concrete

On one of my first days patrolling I had someone fall off the lift from about 25 feet and his head landed about a foot from the corner of the concrete pad. He got damned lucky he didn't hit it. He wasn't wearing a helmet so he almost certainly would have bit it. Luckily just had a broken wrist and maybe a concussion.

Some kid jumped this huge headwall and got like 20ft of air, landed on one of his poles and slid into a tree in the woods. Long story short he broke a couple of ribs, his tib fib, and ruptured his spleen. It was gnarly.

Wish i had it on vid.

peeing and forgetting to give it that extra shake and it runs down ur leg and ur like 'naw it'll dry off', but it doesnt and then stains ur pants

did you know tho that he ruptured his aorta (heart) from that impact?

he easily could have died. yeah, ruptured aorta and other stuff i imagine, i can't remember now. it's derek spong and it was a (stupid) Rage films setup if you wanna google it

Watched some dude do a backflip on the wave last weekend, guy went higher than I've ever seen anyone. I don't know if he was tucking for double or what but he came out of the first flip 20 feet up and started flailing. Landed on his back and neck and was sitting up in the landing and moving a bit. Ski patrol still had to cart him down.

8 feet of air? Possible if it's really poppy and he overshot the landing, thus increasing his height above the ground.

He said that he took too many speed checks and landed on the knuckle so that’s why I’m questioning it.

i wouldn’t even consider 20 feet a big jump

100% possible. you can snap your arms like twigs by landing on them wrong from any height, and it's super easy to ring your bell as well.

i don't see what's unbelievable at all about the story. you think a kid who lands halfway down the deck of a jump is good at falling?

Worst crash? it was into the olympic park pool in Park city, but used to hit the ramps there in the summer with the local freeride team and one of the girls who was realllly goood wanted to hit up mongo (the biggest jump) and wanted to do a double front flip. Well, she got the double around but it was more like 2 and a half rotations and opened up right as her face/head smacked the water. She floated up unconscious and knocked out and that was scary.

Worst fail? Riding up gadzoom at snowbird once on a pow-day with a friend and a patroller on the chair. Got to watch some kooks duck a rope right under the chairline and it was funny hearing the patroller give a big sigh like "Really dudes?" and call it in to other patrollers.

Pekka Hyysalo's awful crash which led to quadriplegia. But still he fought and is back on skis. Not sure if anyone has heard of/remembers this acccident.

No I don’t think that lmao I’m just sayin it’s messed up how you get THAT fucked up off that small of a jump. 20 feet isn’t that big at all.

I found a skate banana in a tree well once.. so, losing your board? Pretty big fail?

Unless the bindings were broken some bruh prolly just got too high and his board slid down the hole.

After it torpedoed a couple hundred feet from the ski rack at the top of Wildwood..

Some kid over-rotated and overshot a superman frontflip to his stomach. That was gnarly but I was glad he was ok

My friend tried flatspin for the first time and did not spin it like flatspin and fell upside down on back to the landing

I was at t72 at sunday river on a pretty hard packed day. I was standing at the top of the rail section when I looked up and saw a kid send the fuck out of the last jump go upside down and land on his head in the gucci plateau immediately i skied down to get ski patrol. Im pretty sure the kids dead one of the gnarliest falls ive ever seen
