World Cup

You'd think they got they're leg chopped off with no medication the way they act. I almost get second hand embarrassment. If the US manages to loose to Iran after a draw with Whales who hasn't been to a world cup since the cold war I'll never bother to keep the sport on my radar again.

I feel like there's very little excitement around the World Cup this time. I remember people getting really into it and everyone watching the usmnt team play in the group stages but I hardly realize that it's happening right now.

Yeah, it seems there's less excitement for this world cup than 2018, and the US wasnt even in it 4 years ago...

I've been watching the games just sorta casually and following along but that's about all I can muster. It feels tainted and theres a lack of fun with it all.

Not at all a soccer fan but it's been pretty fun to watch. If USA can beat Iran it will get even better.

Definitely get why the planet loves soccer.

My roomates are on the varity soccer team at my school so they hyped me up for it but Canada lost all their games so far :( maybe I'll try watching the premier league

Soccer is fun to play, and very unfun to watch now. It feels like there used to be so many more interesting characters and approaches to the game from like 1995-2010.

Now it has become so "meta" that it's not enjoyable to follow anymore. You still occasionally get something cool like Leicester city but every club is running fucking supercomputer AI's for things from fucking day to day training to who they should buy. All the players look the same and all the players play the same. The clubs play the same style of soccer. The flop reigns supreme. Dudes get paid millions of euros to sit on the sidelines just for the 2 minutes they play that gives the team a .2% advantage.

Didn't used to be this way. At least MLS or amateur club teams for cities is still fun to watch. A lot more physical and pure and a lot less "Oh god don't try to be a hero we paid 340 million euros for you and can't let you even get a broken toenail".

I'll continue to play and be involved but my interest in watching drops more every year

I'd say it's fun to watch but it's unfun to follow if you only pay attention to EPL or champions league stuff...

If you watch lower levels, it's actually super entertaining. Players still have solid roles on the team. English League 1 or Championship.. Scottish Premiership.. the Turkish superleague.. stuff like that is absolutely super entertaining to watch, and the fans are SO much more into it than the money machines of the prem and CL.

I follow a couple lower level clubs like Bradford AFC, Wimbledon, St. Pauli, and Oviedo in the Spanish segunda... and whenever I see these matches it's just so much more interesting and has so much more soul than what you get in the top flight.

The pitches are sometimes a bit messy, or muddy, the pace of play is very different, and it just has a bit of a backyard feel to it that is wholly endearing.

This is the first World Cup since 2010 that I haven’t paid attention to really at all.

IOC is corrupt, FIFA is corrupt, FIA is corrupt.

It’s almost comical how it is so what the world doesn’t want and it’s so obvious it’s about money for FIFA. It’s a joke.

dumb-and-dumber-mockingbird-gif.gif

Undefeated in the group is no joke and the defense/midfield look super solid so credit to Gregggg for that.

I feel like all his subs are fucked though cause we've looked like shit second half with the lead. I want to see Gio play and Aaronson get some more minutes. I feel both of them can deliver a faster counter attack, hold the ball up, and feed weah better

Theres a reason why we used metric to land on the moon lol.

i'm not going to argue that it's easier, americans just want the extra challenge (life is too easy otherwise)

I had the stream pulled up on a background window while at work so I could listen in. 9 minutes of stoppage time hosed me as I had a meeting at the top of the hour. Missed the final two minutes.

Knockout stages will be good the super teams aren't really that strong and there won't be much between the 16 that advance.

Hasn't been the best tournament so far but we are getting quantity of games not quality and its happening during the best sports time of the year.

There's literally no debate. Coca Cola measures it in Litres for a reason.

They use both. It's literally only 1 or 2 systems of measure on the entire planet. People who make it their personality to complain over simple unit conversions should focus on the hundreds of languages on this planet instead instead.

yeah it hasn't been the best soccer so far but group stage can be kind of lame with people playing timidly/playing for ties. knockout stage is always much better

now we got rid of the trash teams, not to be confused with the mf USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA!

I have to walk a kilometer is way easier for my brain to conceptualize than a mile. Just something I noticed.

There used to be hundreds. Now theres really only 1 good system, one holdout based on the anatomy of an inbred dude and that literally uses metric in order to standardize itself, and one system that's only used at sea and in aviation and is more based on the rotation of the planet - which is also standardized using metric.

Yeah, a meter is on average, about how far a step forward is when

walking, and you can easily imagine walking 1000 paces. You can kinda do

the same thing in Yards, but nobody uses yards for anything but

American football or Fabric.

To say it's standardized on metric is a misnomer. Both systems are standardized on natural constant phenomena. And even metric has it's quirks. There's like half a dozen systems of pressure measurements with metric bases. The base unit for mass is kilogram while everything else doesn't hold the kilo prefix because of some bs old grudge with king gram or whatever.

The long and short of it, there's only two. And unless you're clinically retarded or woflowz, it's not hard to use either.

Your time is better spent on trying to standardize language. What a mess that is.

i just don't get the mentality of hating on the imperial system... like what the fuck does it matter. you only care because you think it's hip and you think you're sticking it to the red necks or whatever. you just look like a fucking stupid nerd. like i come in and say a joke and then fucking metric apologists come in saying "um acktshually? the metric system makes much more sense than the awful imperial system!.. according to my calculations an average step while at walking speed is equivocal..." like bro ? metric deez nuts more like it

Can't wait for December 3rd and the EFL Championship return. Give me players playing for the next contract and fans, not the ones playing for more 0's in their bank accounts

The premier league and champions league are so similar in tactics now, it's boring to watch more than a game or 2

Before the 50s and 60s, the imperial system's sizes were made to have a metric standard equivalent.

English has for a long time been the global language of commerce, and anyone from anywhere who wants to work in international diplomacy or business is going to want to learn English these days. Standardization is pretty much just happening accidentally, and there's rarely an issue these days as translation devices are actually quite impressive - It's far less of a mess than you think.

Language itself will never be fully standardized, since it's an exceptionally cultural. Even if everyone spoke the same language, they wouldnt understand everyone culturally... You and someone from someone from Pakistan might have both grown up speaking English, but I guarantee you they use it very differently and there are contexts that both of you will not understand.

I mean, they won today.

That group could have gone any direction... The matches were all pretty exciting.

Its true, they were lucky with South Korea last WC and on some level I want to see other CONCACAF teams do well. On the other hand I'm overjoyed EL Tri's dirty play caught up to em.

Japan topping the group of death is insane. Germany out in the groups for the last two WCs what a world
