Working with an employee with autism.

I work at a financial firm. And there is this women who is in mid 30's and I am almost 100% sure she has autism, or aspergers. Before I rant about this women, know that I have never done anything, or said anything mean to this women. My little cousin who is 16 has aspergers, and I understand alot of the characteristics. This women is down right ANNOYING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't stand her. She is probably the most odd person I have ever met. She says the weirdest shit of all time. For example today, she walked in and out of the office door like 6 times in and hour. I went the bathroom, and come back and she gone, not at her desk. She knows that in our office, that if someone else is on a break or bathroom break that you have to wait for that person to get back to set out. Well like I said I come back, and she is gone not at her desk. She walks in 5 min later and I say "Tina you have walked in and out of the office 6 times this morning, I saw you smoking outside, please don't leave if you see me or someone else on break, as the phones ring alot here". She looks at me with the weirdest look in her face, and screams "Matt!!!! I had to take a dump!"

The whole office went silent.

You cant tell her anything, she gets very defensive. She will go periods of weeks not speaking a word to me, then out of no where she will be like " I had a one night stand last night" or " I went on match.com last night and fucked this guy" This women is hidious, she is very over weight, has ratty hair, and wears the same clothes everyday, and she smells. She asks the same questions over and over again..

Every time I leave, she asks me where i'm going. When I come back she will ask me if its still hot outside, when its been a 100 degrees all day. She always talks about how much she hates her family, brothers, mom and dad. Ohhh and she laughs very very very loud at EVERYTHING!!!. No joke. The other day I looked out the window, and said "its actually raining outside" (since we have had a big drought). She broke out into uncontrollable laughter.

The funny part is, that she is a really good employee. In the 3 years she has been here she has never asked for a day off. She is very very set on her routines. If I am a minute late opening the office in the morning she will glare at me. She is always waiting outside the door for me to let her in, in the morning since she doesn't have a key. Everyday she arrives at exactaly the same time. She is by far the weirdest person I have ever met.

What do I do? I don't have the authority to fire her. I have told my boss about it, and he agrees that she is annoying, but cant fire her because she does a good job. This women is from mars I swear.

1. Fuck you. Just because you aren't mean to her in person doesn't make you not a douche. (Also, the way you act is probably douchy, even if you don't realize it) You clearly don't understand anything about people with autism. If you did, you would understand that there is an inability to pick up on social ques. The way that she acts is what she guesses is socially acceptable, but there is something lacking that prevents her from really being able to read what other people are doing.

2. To solve the break problem, set up a schedule for when she can take breaks. This will solve most of the problems. People that have a autism or aspergers need to exist in a system with a schedule, thats why she glares at you when you aren't there on time to let her in. It helps people cope with an overwhelming world that they can't completely understand.

This is all coming from a person with aspergers.

1. Really? How do you know how I act around her? I have not treated her any differently then anyone else at my office. I respect everyone. I understand about not picking up social cues. But you try to work with someone for 3 years three feet away from you that acts like this. I have not been a douche to her what so ever. When she rants and goes on her long stories I listen. I haven't done one mean thing to her the whole time she has been her, treated her with the up most respect. Your not here, so how can you say that I prob act like a douche to her?

2. The break problem is just one of the many issues.

3. My little cousin has apergers, I wasn't looking for a bash fest, just looking for some suggestions, and maybe to let a little steam out, since I don't say shit to her.

4. Fuck you for judging me, when you have no clue who I am or what I do.

5. She does nothing to help herself, her family has tried countless times to help her, but she won't let them.

wait so....she is a perfect employee, who laughs a lot, tells you about her crazy online one-night stands, and isn't afraid to tell you she was taking a dump--I fail to see the problem. But I'll take your word for her being annoying. I have tons of irritating coworkers.

One time in church, we were supposed to write on slips of paper whatever we wanted and then turn them into a drop box.

I wrote "please help me to be nicer to my annoying coworker"...

didn't work...there's still annoyance all over my face every time i see him.

Perfect employee? She isn't perfect but does a good job. You fail to see the problem with a person announcing to the whole office (with new clients in the room next door) that she just had to take a dump?I guess you have worked somewhere where professionalism counts. She is beyond annoying. I swear she is from mars. I didn't post this to start a shit storm. I posted it because i need to let a little steam out, because like I just said I can't take it out on her.

i think the dump thing is funny.

and you didn't start a shit storm...i empathized with you.

didnt read your first post but wanted to mention something based on this one. its the real world. you will always have super annoying coworkers, incompetent coworkers, bad management, and other perceived or real workplace improprieties. As far as your coworker having some sort of mental illness or personality disorder, she probably does. More people suffer from these than you realize. I'm with you on the venting though. I work with people that can be dangerous to other humans, and its frustrating. Glad to be off for a few days.

Just listened to a 20 minute long rant about how she cant stand that the price for the license plate sticker renewal went up from $96.00 to $98.00. Over 20 minutes of her ranting aver $2.00. I know lots of people have mental illness, and i know its not her fault. Which is why I can't take it out on her. But she gets under my skin something fierce.

you shouldn't have told us that she has a mental illness, because now I can't tell you to fuck with her without being a bad person.

Ehhhhh didn't the name of the thread give it away? And the consistent talk about autism and aspergers?

Now its on to how her dentist charged her $90.00 bucks for a cleaning and how the price went up to $100 this year, and that she feels she knows more then her dentist. She also said she doesn't go to the doctor, because she believes she can fix ANYTHING wrong with her with vitamins, and her next door neighbor who is an out work alcoholic chiropractor.

yeah...what i meant was...at all. should have just made a thread about your annoying coworker, then updated us with things she does.

Again how am I an ass? I can't think that someone who has autism is annoying? It would be one thing if I messed with her, and mad fun of her, treated her poorly. I don't do any of those things.
