Working Stowe - where to live?

Hi all, Im changing from Utah to Stowe next season. Im English so I dont have a clue about the Vermont/Stowe area.

Any one got any clues?

I went to school in Burlington, and if I was in your position, I'd definitely live in Burlington and drive to Stowe everyday (a little less than an hour). But you do need a reliable car for that.
 
why the eff would you work in stowe and live in btown.....thats likea 45 mile drive and stowe traffic sucks when its busy.

i would look in richmond or waterbury or stowe, the money you save not commuting is worth the extra money to live in stowe. you could even live in morrisville which is the town north of stowe, id live in waterbury or stowe. you can just drive to burlington if you want to hang out with college kids, or stay in stowe when you want to hang out with ski bums and hot rich new jersey chicks
 
There arent any supermarkets around stowe, so if you want to live near stowe get ready to go to small convenience stores for everything you need. I'm sure there are a few apartments off the mountain that you can rent for the winter, thats how it is at smuggs, jay, and bolton (all in vt)

 
My advice to you would be to start drinking heavily in waterbury.

Having grown up here and skied stowe for the past year, I would say that if you want to have any fun, then you should try to live in Burlington. It is much easier to hang out with people your age and have fun other than skiing. Apartments are expensive (600+ a month). Ii isn't a bad drive at all.

If you don't live in Burlington, then definitely live in the stowe/ waterbury area. Anything out of those two towns is the sticks. weird people. Trust me I grew up there.
 
Sorry but that's not true at all. There are two grocery stores within a couple miles of each other right in the middle of Stowe. It would be a fun town to live in, don't get the impression it's the middle of nowhere. Personally, if I was in your situation, I would live in Stowe. Rent's going to be more expensive, but you should be able to find something. You can always go to Burlington on the weekends if you feel like visiting the "city", but it's going to be way more annoying if you try to commute from Btown to Stowe every day.
 
because btown is awesome and i don't think the drive is that bad, but to each his own, i guess. there's lots of towns you could live in, out of all of them near stowe, i'd prefer to live in btown.

i live/work in Stowe and rent is a little more expensive than morrisville or W-bury. Some of the cheaper places are crap for what they want, but you can get lucky. Try CL or Stowe Reporter for places. It's pretty nice rolling out of bed and being on the chair or trailhead 15 mins later.
 
Boston is 3 1/2 hours from Stowe and Burlington. Living in Burlington is nice, but if you're working @ Stowe full-time, I'd get tired of the commute. Find some local rippers, party w/them, and go to Burlington when you've got the next day off. There are couches to sleep on everywhere.
Skip Montpelier. There's nothing there.

seems to me like most of you clowns really havent spent any time in stowe but you come on her claiming you know it all. stowe has a good party scene, just cuz you came up from jersey wtih your parents for the weekend and couldnt find anything to do doesnt mean you can judge a town on anything.

the matterhorn is a dope bar, so is that one on the bend there next to the japanese restaurant. buy normal food i assume you mean like pizza and stuff, there are multiple pizzarias in town, that not only have good pizza they have the best pizza around ie picasso and pie in the sky. piecasso has a diverse menu of dank food at locals pricing pretty much. and the bone head who made the comment about no grocery stores come on.

even if there was no grocery stores, i feel like stocking up on a months worth of food is not hard to do if you find yourself in burlington.

and yes there will be people your age (whatever age that is in stowe) and it really doesnt matter the age of the people around as long as they are good people. no there are not swarms of vermont wanna bees like in burlington but you will get by for the winter.
 
first off im not one of these 15 years olds who take weekend trips with my parents. and i wasnt shitting on the the town of Stowe. ive been to the matterhorn and got pretty shitty. and im sure the town is great if you lived there your whole life. but i was offering my opinion just like the OP was asking for. my opinion is Burlington has more to do. if all i wanted to do was eat good pizza i would get in my car and drive to Jersey. thats all i was saying.

 
If your ganna work at stowe and be comfortable you gotta live in lamoille county, this means stowe, morrisville, hyde park, or johnson. I'm living in stowe for this winter.
 
for sure theres always tons of shit to do there and tons of biddys, but if you can handle the small town shit living in the area is where its at.
 
Hahahaha, its getting pretty heated! Thanks for all the replies. Ive got a few replies from apartments for rent and the cost is surprisingly high. Still it is what it is. Im gonna live in Stowe cos my car will be with the Mrs down in Boston.

If anyone out there is thinking about Stowe this season and needs a place drop me a line. I think its gonna be all about sharing a two room place.
