Im planning to spend my first year out of highschool wokring and skiing at a resort out west. Im wondering waht its like, and how it works in terms of houseing pay health insurance and how much oyu actauly get to ski

depends on what you want to accomplish

if your goal is too ski 130 days then you NEED to either work at night or on the hill as a coach or instructor...possible the best job is as a freeskiing coach, but you would probably need your level cert from psia...

Benefits...NO SUCH THING unless you want to work a 9 to 5

best bet is to get a wage + tip position at a nice restaurant or bar...free food is good too

and be prepared to get laid off at the end of the season.

My plan is to head out in the fall to whateve rmountian and get set up with job and hosuiong then once it starts snowing ill be all set once the season wraps up ill have a roadtrip back to where I live and get ready for four more years of school

i wanna do that too. im only 15 now, but i wanna take a year off after gr.12 and ski. id prbably do some instructing, cuz i already have my Level 1 and am gonna go for park+pipe cert next year. i wanna teach at like big white or silverstar, or maybe sunshine village or marmot basin. i know that sunshine has staff accomodations on the hill, which would be pretty sweet.

lot of ppl that i know who have taken a year off after gr. 12 ended up taking more than 1 year off, some still havnt gone back to do some post-secondary education.

DO IT!!!! you should just stay out west after the season and work a dope job like rafting for the summer lot better then going home and its a chance to make some good money. i'm taking off next winter to work at baker but i'll still be going to school just doing internet classes for the quarter.

for the employee housing it's shitty but super cheap. utilities and everything are included and you get shoved in a room with a couple people you don't know. you don't get to ski very much at all except for the two days a week off you get. you wrok 8-4 everyday, and you don't get benefits until you have worked there for twelve months. usually.

i did that lost of fun not as much skiing as you would think even as i was working as a ski instructor. rent is super expensive unless they have staff acom but those are normally pretty crappy. bet way to do it is to work as a server in one of the restaurants best money in tips, and you can work at night so you can ski all day. And don’t live in a hostel it sucks, and food is super expensive you need to plan trips to town for groceries

Or just get a night ski repair job. If you are a ski tech already, shop jobs are good. I skied in Bend for a couple of winters just working nights and weekends, I got in over 100 days a season and covered rent. If you work from like 3-10 tuning skis and taking tips every night life can be good...
