Working and living in the Mt Baker area

Trying to start planning on where I'll be working this upcoming winter season and hoping that I could just get some general info about working and living in the Baker area. Got one season experience working at a rental/tuning shop in colorado after graduating from CU, actually in Berlin right now on a summer internship but I'll be back in the US sometime in september. Any recommendations on shops to work at, jobs that allow for alot of ride time on the mountain, ideal living situations (with a dog), backcountry access information, and anything in general you feel someone who really doesn't know shit about the area should know? I know theres gotta be some info already out there on ns but wasn't finding it easily and hoping for updated info anyway. Really appreciate any advice, thanks a bunch.
 
Applications become available August 1st to Mt.Baker. and if you work up there, normally you can find housing with some other employees, or in Glacier. It will probably be harder to find housing with a dog.
 
Thanks for the response, I was looking at glacier online. Definitely gonna jump on August applications soon as they're out, sent an email to glacier ski shop. Is it easy enough to bus/wait tables at one of the restaurants there as well? And just how much housing is in glacier, does it get filled up quick? Housing is always a little tougher with the dog, hope its not too much of a problem
 
fuck that shit. baker treats their employees like shit. coming from 2 years of experience, FUCK. THAT. you shouldnt even bother and just stay where you are. we had like 78590 el ninos in a row the skiing IS SHIT.
 
This. And not just cause of certain circumstances that may allow me to agree more than I would normally. What? Yes.

But about restaurants in le Glache, probably not. You're gonna have to know someone or be really fucking awesome at everything to get a job in Glacier easily, so if you want to live there, plan on working at Baker. Baker has employee housing. It all sucks, though.

Ps, Glacier has three restaurants, a coffeeshop/bakery, and no gas station or cell service. If you didnt know already. Its crazypeopletown.

 
Has anyone ever been a liftie at baker? Was wondering about ride breaks? How many you get a day? And just really what its like being a liftie there
 
Moving to baker/glacier/bham to be a ski bum is so retarded that only snowboarders are dumb enough to do it.

My suggestion would be to pick some place where it snows consistently, does not rain consistently, and you might actually see the sun.
 
I ski on two snowboards i guess but yea i lived on hood for like four seasons so im used to it man. Oh and fuck the the sun let it snow and stick to the forrest till spring

The town of glacier is like one shitty bar, one shitty mini mart, some indians, and a broken down double wide that someone has converted into a meth lab. I would suggest specializing in one of the aforementioned careers if you live there.
