Today i just got a new pair of Line 1260's...i got a good deal(i think)$250 for the ski brand new...I really like them... I usta have Salomon 1080's that were too short and wernt center mounted....It took a little getting used to center mounted skis o_O... but they were really cool and i was bustin 180's so much smoother and doin boxes and rails way better... so i think they will be good for me. The only thing is they are a little stiff... do they lossen up after they get broken in...or just stay the same?

they are stiff than your 1080, but thats because the 1080s are foam wrapped in plastic and p-tex

1080's Suck. Salomon Sucks. Maybe if they started using wood core and not there foam composite shit, i would have respect for them

get your fax straight.

1080's are not plastic wrapped. JACKASS!!

1st off Monocoque is patented that's why everbody is not using it. The idea with monocoque is that is not a cap. Cap skis just cover.

Monocoque wraps the ski with 2 walls of material. Some of it is called isocell and the 2nd is titanium sheets.

What does this do? It allows for quick transmition to the edges and it keeps the ski light.

Won't you stop dissin' - with the 1080 there would not have been freestyle skiing.

Loosers. If you don't like Salomon because they are big just say that. Don't just make up shit.

By the way, you should hate Rossi and K2 as they are just as big.

Skiers are lame.

my "Monocoque" 1080's skied like dead noodles after a year of good skiing.

steezyme must work for salomon. hehe, and there is DEFINATLY no titanium in 1080s, there is in PRs.. and yeah, the 1080s are a chunk of foam wrapped in plastic.

a blank foam core is milled out of a larger blank ( i hope, if they are using injection molded cores, thats just even crappier.)

then the base is glued to the very thin brittle edge like every other ski.

a layer of triaaxe fiberglass (a composite consisting of glass fiber and epoxy, AKA plastic) is then layed over the base, the core is layed over that, and then another layer of glass is layed over, followed by a layer of plastic AKA the topsheet. then, this is set in a heated press, where the pre impregnated fiberglass thaws and cures. the ski is taken out and trimmed. tada! infact, the only thing in the 1080 that isnt plastic is the edges.

now, to the whole monocoqoue term, which is just that, a term. monocoqoue is a term where large sheets are shaped and bonded together to replace otherwise complex assemblies, this is found on car parts, mt bikes, and a ton of other shit. now, salomon is the only ski company that calls it that, but a salomon monoqoue ski is built just like everyone elses. if you'll remember the first generation teneightys, they were also "monocoqoue", but consisted of a traditional designed topsheet. the cutouts in core of the 1080 sere a few purposes:

1. cut a small portion of weight from the tips of the ski.

2. give some more ridgidity to the ski by creating a 3 dimensional structure to the topsheet and top layer of fiberglass.

3. look cool to young, uneducated buyers.

now, to why foam cores suck.

the foam used in the 1080s is a high density Polyurathane foam, identical to what is used in surfboards. (anyone who is familer with surfing knows how often boards break, and they are built almost identically to skis.) while this provides some structural integrity to the ski, it is approximatly the same weight as most woods. however, foam lacks fibers like wood and fiberglass. this means that while wood and woven composite materials transfer energy along these fibers, foam core skis just randomly flex, there is almost no actual energy transmission. and while wood and fiberglass have high rebound rates, foam doesnt. the bonds between the particals breaks down very fast, and within a few weeks, you are left with a ski that depends soly on two thin layers of fiberglass for ALL of its flex properties. on top of this, the 1080s have shitty edges, crappy graphics, and shit bases.

also, this argument is strickty against the 1080. the pro model CRs and Candides are very sick skis.

I work for salomon.

The skis suck.

You heard it from the source.

Now go buy some Tanner Hall pro models or you won't be able to 630 onto a rail ever ever ever.

the 1080 is a noodle but you must respect salomon for breaking a twin tip into the market if the 1260 is too stiff I don't know what you are going to do
