Woodward at Copper Digital Media Camp

Has anybody gone? Is it worth it? Any other media camps I should look at? Basically just deciding if I should go there or not

Well I am gonna give you my basic rundown of why you should and should not go.

Pros

-It seems dope as hell

-A lot of dough

-Trying out the best camera equipment and editing software

-you'll probably meet a bunch of really fucking annoying kids that are just rich and their parents send them to camp

Cons

-There are most likely closer film camps closer (most likely won't involve skiing, but apply what you did at a different camp and apply to a skiing edit)

-Ask friends about tips and tricks they use to film and edit

-Go on the internet and look up, and read about what people have to say about filming and editing

-you can always torrent the software

There's my basic rundown of why I would and would not want to go to Woodward.

Not to be condescending, but this looks like a pretty big waste of money. If you want to actually learn something, take a real class, shoot your own movies, or work as a PA on some real sets. Better yet, do all three...

So... My friend was a JC at Woodward at Copper last summer and he tried out digital media camp one week taking a break from skiing every day and he had a good time, but it's not quite everything he'd looked for.

Basically you set out and you get tips on filming and editing and end up with an edit at the end of the week to show to the camp. If you're a beginner at filming you could probably learn a lot. I take video class in school and have learned quite a bit, and it's similar at camp. However, at camp the video kids did mostly other activities and less actual shooting and video. They did the activities like digglers, go-karts, trips, skating, tie-dye, tramping etc. and it was a mainstay of what they did. These activities are all fun and I enjoyed doing them as a ski camper, but I don't know if I'd chose to do video instead of skiing....

The video kids did come up with some really cool stuff, and a snowboarding filmer who I'm now friends with has really gone places with his work since camp.

Here's his edit: (it also shows camp experience which was amazing.)

Anyways, I'm trying to JC at Woodward this summer, and even if not I'll be there weeks 2/3 so hit me up with any more questions or if you decide to go.
