are some sites not compatible with firefox?

There are a few random sites that aren't compatible, but its hard to find the few that don't work.

Firefox isn't really new... It was created in November I believe.. there have been over 20 million downloads of it so far! It's huge!

I also just made the switch a few days ago. Since then i have yet to recieve a pop up. And i haven't noticed anything not working..that usually did on IE. My friends computer was bogged down with ads and spyware. You couldn't even surf the internet anymore. I installed firefox, and closed intenet explorer and we were surfing without 1 popup. it's incredible!!

Download.com works perfectly by the way.

Firefox is great but i beleive IE is so bad only because all (most) of the spyware and popups are directed to it because way more people use it. Ive seen some numbers and IE's user database is huge compared to Firefox's partly because it comes with every PC. So as Firefox continues to grow it may soon become the target of the future. Think about it yo

IE has plenty of viruses for two reason. First is cauz it's the most popular, second is cauz it's very badly designed and made. If firefox gets popular it will still be well designed and made, chances are it will be less of a securit insult than firefox.

here's the deal with IE and microsoft in gereral (and this is not an opinion): if you keep you MS system upto date on patches you will NEVER have a viral infection period. ALL MS vulnerabilities are built upon anouncements made by MS of a hole or gap in the proigramming which is decreasing daily.

ppl and their MS is unsecure talk are mostly uninformed or don't know how to handle MS based systems properly. if i had a choice i would never run *nix inside the perimiter because there is no comparison on the desktop between MS and *nix. equally there is no comparisson btwn MS and *nix (apache / bind) on th epermiiter where *nix excells. each have a job to do and each has it's place.

i would add that all MS vulnerabilities used to come from outside of MS but all now come from either zeroday or close to zeroday exploits built off of holes that MS has found and announced when it becomes a race between a patch and the sploit.

it's true that if you are smart with windows, you don't have to worry about viruses so much. BUT you get spyware and trojans and shit like none other with IE. I did a test, and didn't run a spyware scanner for a week using IE and scanned it afterwards, and did the same thing with firefox (I was visiting all the same sites etc). IE had about 5 times more spyware than Mozilla. Which is one of the reasons I like Mozilla. Also the new popup blocking system and shit they put in IE recently annoys the SHIT out of me. worst implementation of a blocking system EVER.

I have a few things to comment on...

First of all, I also ran Spy Sweeper every night (well morning around 5AM) .. and every morning when i woke up I had around 3-5 things found on my computer. This was a consistent trend for close to 2 or 3 months. A few weeks ago, I installed firefox. After a week of surfing the same website, and running the scan every night... I made it over a week without 1 object found. Since then, nothing has ever been found.

Note: I have, and always have, updated my software (especially IE) to always have the most recent updates as soon as they come out. I would consider myself an educated 'web surfer dude' so I generally have a clean computer and avoid the pitfalls your typical user would fall into. But, in spite of all this, i still got spyware junk.

Moral of the story is, TRY Firefox out for a week and decide for youself. Join the 23+ million people who have made the switch since November 9th. (Source: www.spreadfirefox.com)

but on firefox it didn't work so i had to look for it on google.

Yes... if you just type in words without a .com or anything after it, it takes that set of words (newschoolers for example) and does a google 'I'm Feeling Lucky' search. So, this only works for websites that will come up first on google..

Examples:

Comcast

Microsoft

Apple

Adobe

Newschoolers

Snowboard (.com)

you get the idea.

A dangerous spoofing security hole has been found in almost every browser on the market -- except one.

Mozilla, Firefox, Safari, OmniWeb, Opera and Netscape all suffer from the 'moderately critical' vulnerability that allows the spoofing of address bar URLs and SSL certificates, but, incredibly Microsoft Corp.'s Internet Explorer gets a clean bill of health.

Publicized by security company Secunia, the flaw affect the range of browsers using the open-source Gecko browser kernel. Anyone using an affected browser would be able to visit spoofed websites without being aware of it, something that would aid any crime based on setting up bogus websites, such as phishing.

The flaw arises from the way the named browsers resolve web addresses that include international characters in International Domain Name (IDN) URLs. Russian researchers Evgeniy Gabrilovich and Alex Gontmakher first outlined the potential for such a spoofing issue in 2002, in what was then a theoretical paper, The Homograph Attack. Exploiting the hole could, they reasoned, allow them to register a 'homographic' variant of www.microsoft.com that included Unicode/UTF-8-defined Russian characters similar to certain ASCII characters.

They speculated that some browsers would either resolve these characters in a garbled way or would, as has turned out to be the case, present them as if the registered domain was actually the real Microsoft.com. Users could also be fooled into believing the bogus site was protected by an SSL certificate when it wasn’t

 
meh, when NS gets spoofed like that is the day i'll care more than a little bit about that one.

I like firefox. It seems to run kinda slow on my 56k, but I didn't do that mod that everyone's been talking about....... how do you do that?

Just saying, I run a totally Window's/MS based system.

I have XP and IE. I run Norton AntiVirus, Win Firewall, Spyware Doctor, Ad-Aware, and Spybot. In the year or so that I've had this computer, I've only crashed twice, both times I fixed it by myself. I have little to no popups. I keep my caches' clean. I scan my computer 'head to toe' weekly. I have basically zero problems. And I experience no lag.

The bottom line is, use what you want, just make sure you know how to use it. Switching browsers or even operating systems won't save you from your own stupidity.

firefox is much better, i get no spyware from it and no popups, the tabbed browsing thing is awesum and i cant imagine living without it, plus if u get some off the addons for firefox it makes it evan better, i got this addblocker thing for banners on websites and it allows u to black just the picture for the banner or if its in a frame u can block the whole frame from laoding any pictures EVA, for all u ppl using firfox chek it out

every browser out right now is vulnerable to spoofing sites in some way or another. the easiest one is foreign character set spoofing.
