Women’s ski or Uni sex ski? Which do you prefer?

Literally asking for a friend- he wants to get his gf skis for Christmas or her birthday or something idk and I thought I’d ask lady gabber. I personally prefer uni sex and I’ve never even owned or ever considered getting a woman specific ski. What are your thoughts?
 
I never really noticed any drastic differences between women’s specific and unisex aside from a handful of ski models. For me, It mostly came down to graphics when picking between unisex and women’s specific. Last year, I went with the k2 press over the k2 empress (women specific) because the graphic was this god awful Barbie pink, but both skis were virtually the same.
 
I hate pink. I have two pairs of actual womens skis. My On3p and a volkl Flair carving ski.

I also have race skis that are unisex. The ones that stand out that "feel" like a womens ski are the Volkl flairs. They are crazy light the only metal they have is the edges and theyre Super easy to get up on edge. Supposedly my On3p are a lighter sofeter flexing verion of the comparable guys ski. Theyre still pretty stiff and sorta heavy. When those die they will get replaced with "Guys" ski Because the magnus 90 is the narrowest they have. And i need longer than 161. I feel like im on snowblades.
 
Skis are a really personal thing.... I would honestly be pretty upset if someone bought me skis. Even growing up if I got skis for a birthday or something, it was a card "redeemable" for skis so I could pick out what I wanted. And my dad was one of my coaches, so even though he usually had a pretty good idea, I still had the flexibility. That said I ski all men's skis, unless they are truly unisex and I find the women's skis prettier. But only a few companies have exactly the same construction. But it really depends on the skier- I come from a racing background and have gotten over 140 days on snow every year since I was probably 10. My mom skis once every 5 years. She is on a women's specific ski.
 
I usually just buy men’s skis. The differences are pretty minimal. This season was my first season buying some women’s specific skis (Armada arws) and they are maybe a bit lighter but not by a noticeable amount.

i do agree that skis are a really personal thing. I think if he wants to buy her skis he’d be better off just giving her a “coupon” for skis and then taking her shopping and letting her pick out what she likes.
 
If he likes her, he’ll let her pick her own skis.

Honestly, I don’t think there’s much of a difference....
 
Men's "all mountain but great in the park" type skis. They're typically smaller and mounted more towards the center, so they're essentially the perfect women's skis.
