Women designing skis and boards

Poking around the threads here on Newschoolers and talking to chicks on the hill, I think most of us agree that the majority of women's gear well.... kinda sucks. So I was pretty stoked last winter when I heard about a group of ripping women who decided to start designing skis and boards for women who rip! I got in touch with the founder and I've been helping out as an ambassador to help spread the word ever since.

The company is called Coalition Snow and we launched our first line of skis and boards this winter. I've posted a few articles about the company if you're interested...

and

but I'm curious what you ladies think? are skis and boards designed by women the solution to the shrink and pink model?

if you're interested in more information here's where to find it.

This is awesome!

Are you guys going to be out at SIA?

It's awesome to see the community come together to push and progress out sport! I worked on a project with ON3P as did a few other ladies (and little did you all realize, the newschoolers community), to help put together their new female line. Its cool to see a company like that reach out to the female community for their input.

Anyways, excited to see what you guys are coming up with!

Rad errrka! That sounds like a fun project to be a part of. ON3P does good work. I'm gonna have to go check out what you came up with.

Coalition isn't going to have an official booth at SIA as far as I know- but I do believe they'll have some people there doing some guerrilla marketing.

I should also mention they're always looking for ambassadors and athletes to join the amateur team.

and if anyone in the Tahoe area is interested in trying the skis or boards out, I can help you get on a pair of demos and I have some discount codes for the online store if you decide to pull the trigger.

I'll just hang out on this thread patiently until you guys hit the east coast!

also, your slogan could not be more true...

This is so sick! The length would sky rocket over and beyond for me otherwise I would probably be maxing out my credit card right now. I'm definitely going to be keeping my eyes out for this company in the future. Girls rule!

Cool stuff! Wish I had the money to buy a pair! Don't know if I overlooked this, but curious about why 173 specifically in length?

Yeah. I kind of questioned the length too. As a shorter chick (5'2") the 173 cm is definitely the edge my comfort range, but after skiing them a few times it didn't bother me. I noticed the length the first few times but you learn to ski them. There is some early rise in the tip and tail so the actual running length of the ski is a bit shorter than they look, and in deeper snow you have that extra length to help you float.

To be completely honest we haven't had many storms in Tahoe this year so I can't really tell you how I felt about them in the pow, but skiing the bumps and corn we have had, they're pretty fun.

I chose to mount them a +1 from the recommended boot-center marker because I felt like I had more control when there wasn't as much tip in front of me. I made this decision based on some research I did which basically explained how a lower center of gravity and more "junk in the trunk" made it normal for a woman to put more weight on the tail of the ski. I'm not going to necessarily endorse this as the right way to mount any skis yet.

I also come from a racing background so that may or may not have helped me adjust to the length.

Okay cool, yeah I was just curious about if like that was the most common size ski women wanted or something. If anything I would be curious about a bigger ski! My skis all range in the 169-175 length (I'm 5'7) but had been curious about going bigger.

That's funny you moved your mount point up, I just did that with a pair of mine too and the shop questioned my request, but I love it!

Very cool idea! I have worked in ski retail for a long time and there is definitlely a number of women whose needs are not met by the current women's offerings.

Most of those women, including myself, have been buying men's skis for years. It would be great to see a company actually acknowledge us girls by marketing a more aggressive line to women.

I'm stoked on moving the mounting point up too! Who knew!? I think they're talking about going longer for next years line up. I think the length is based on the idea that most women's gear is shorter and softer. So the idea is to offer skis that are longer and stiffer.

Yo! I wanted to give you guys the first heads up that Coalition Snow is launching a Kickstarter to raise funds to expand their line of skis and boards. Not only will it be a chance to pick up a new pair of skis at the cheapest price they've ever offered but they're also dropping a soft goods line with some dope hoodies and leggings as well as some other goodies that are a little easier on the wallet for people who don't have fresh skis in the budget but want to help the cause.

I'll be posting more info and a sneak peak at the catalog on here (in a news post) in the next few days and I would love any help in spreading the word via whatever methods y'all got. We're launching next Tuesday March 24.

^^ Rad! and thanks!

We've already passed the half way point to our goal in the first week! I'm so stoked!

Today is the last day to score early bird prices on select products so don't miss out on snagging some dope soft goods before the prices increase. whoop whoop!!

YOU GUYS! Coalition Snow $31 away from being funded on Kickstarter. Which one of you is going to make it happen?

When we pass the initial funding goal, the fun really begins. We'll be able to pay the team athletes for competitions and expand our ambassador and demo programs!

Hey Ladies! I'm currently working on growing our ambassador team at Coalition Snow for the upcoming season. I'm super stoked that we are expanding our line to include a park ski plus new lengths for our all mountain and pow skis this year (thanks to your help with the Kickstarter).

I'm looking for rad ladies who want to help spread the stoke via sharing your story as a skier as well as helping to organize on mountain demos and events.

If you're interested drop me a line here: http://www.coalitionsnow.com/join-the-movement/

feel free to PM me with any questions.

I'm also looking for snowboarders so tell your friends!

Okay so, Coalition Snow's demo program is officially live for the season. It's pretty limited right now because we're such a small company but we're definitely open to expanding as much as possible.

If you live near

North Lake Tahoe

Aspen

Alta

Whistler

Sunday River

You're in luck! We're offering year round demos at these locations fo' FREE! All you have to do is hit us up at CoalitionSnow.com/Demos and we'll get you sorted out.

If you're not near any of these locations but you still want to try our gear hit me up at Jenn@CoalitionSnow.com and let's see if we can make it happen.

I'm hitting the road from Mid-Late January to Early February and I'd love to meet as many rad chick shred crews as possible on my way and/or drop in on any fun events you ladies are planning. I'll be at SIA but other than that I haven't confirmed any dates - but let me know if you're interested in meeting up, collaborating on a ski day or just sharing a few beers!
