With Temps in the 50s LA Freaks out

who has said they don't feel bad for the homeless? it's just funny when you're saying "oh no these poor homeless people having to be outside on a day where the high is only 55!" when a lot of us live in places where 55 degrees in january is very, very warm and the homeless people are probably really happy about it and used to temperatures well below 30 degrees in the winter.

They were saying the daytime highs. It was 10 degrees in antelope valley 2 nights ago.

They had to shut down part of the 5 freeway due to icing. There was snow in the forecast for orange county. It snowed at my old university that is 20 miles east of Downtown.

Last night my friends loft got down to 40 degrees inside because he has no heater.

YES, it's funny when people are bundled and it's 50... but not when there are 50,000 people in a county that are homeless and sleeping outside when the warmest spot in that county is 27 degrees.

oh come on... shut down the 5 for icing??? thats ridiculous..

i 100 percent agree with dingosean, californians need to grow a pair.

my windows been open 24/7 this whole time its been sooo COOOLD..

and i honestly do not feel bad for any homeless person. if they truly want to get out of the shithole their in, they could get a job at mcdonalds and get out. end of story.

and any "help" you do to the homeless, whether its money, food, cothes, etc... is just enabling them to keep doing what their doing. being pieces of shit druggies/alcoholics, and upping crime and filth to cities.

If you were a manager at mcdonalds would you hire a homeless guy to work there? If you say yes youre lying

And that's where so many people go wrong. My roomie takes 45 minute showers sometimes because 'we don't pay for water! it's free!' As if all thoughts of conserving things should go out the window because either someone else is paying for it, or there's nothing in place to charge you. That mentality drives me nuts... I still live by 'if it's yellow let it mellow' even though i'm not paying for water...

Nobody will actually die from 35 degrees at night in Riverside, or Long Beach, or La Canada or Brea, or Diamond Bar... Temps will be back up in the 70's in a few days anyways - which is the other hilarious part... They're acting like this is the start of some new ice age.

I didn't say I don't still conserve. I only heat my room at night. I turn off all the lights. The house has great insulation and brand new windows. I only keep it warm when I'm actually there. And I don't take 45 minute showers... I also don't buy anything not in glass or paper, hell, I buy bars of shampoo and conditioner, I don't own excessive things... and I live in a "warm" ski town. I don't feel bad about my 68 degree climate.

if i was a manager at mcdonalds i wouldnt be smart enough to know he was homeless or not.

but seriously, mcdonalds will hire anyone.

chances are if he goes to an inner city mcdonalds where the managers are big black ghetto chicks, and cleans himself up a bit, and presents himself decently enough, he could get the job. he doesnt have to say he's homeless..

Why don't you buy paper or glass products? worried about cutting down trees?

Also, glass has far fewer environmental impacts than does Plastic... Do you just buy beer in cans? Aluminium is no better due to mining.

also if you're wondering, yes I'm totally picking on you now Rach.. ;)

A manager, no matter how stupid, will not hire someone who does not have the ability to shower on a regular basis. No one wants food from some smelly ass homeless dude nor do they want to work around them. If you have no place to sleep, you sure as hell have no place to shit/shower/shave etc. On the other hand, LA homeless people are going to be fine. It was fucking 1 degree at my house in Reno this morning and the high was like 25. LA Bums got it easy compared to pretty much all other homeless people. Mild temps all year for the most part.

Seems like people from LA and SLC are no different. Seriously, the temp dips below 20 for a few weeks and all hell breaks out.

bahahaha this is amazing. It was -20 celsius the last few days here and the other morning it was -32 with a windchill. yesterday when it was -10 celsius all i had on was a sweater cause i was warm after the last few days hahah

When was it ever 27 degrees? i think you're slightly confused. The homeless will rest easy knowing that it's 70 degrees and sunny now.

its not that its bad to have compassion for the homeless... its just that you have the blinders on to the rest of the world. I live in Edmonton, Alberta where we get to -30 for 2 weeks at a time a couple times a winter and the homeless prevail without parkas.

the coldest night in LA is shorts weather for locals around here honestly, but it is all what you are used too really.

Its great you feel sorry for the local homeless population but i can not help but chuckle at the notion that they are "freezing" when you compare them to other homeless demographics in North America that deal with much harsher conditions without any real winter wear besides layers of donated sweaters and sweat pants... the local homeless around here dont walk around decked out in winter seasonal wear, they wear tattered sweaters from goodwill.

Fuck you, your whole god forsaken shithole of a state might have the same climate throughout, but California has different fucking climates, so maybe you can say San Fernando Valley residents are pussies, but you cant talk shit about the whole state you stereotyping piece of shit

True that. If you lived in and around Tahoe anytime in the last few weeks you'd say 'damn, you know.. it is pretty cold' just bout every day haha.
