Anyone here surf in the winter?

I went out a week ago (2/13) after the blizzard. Got a nice dawn patrol session in:

Air temp: 16

Water temp: mid 30s

Sets: Chest - shoulder (a few head high)

Wind: out of the W at 5

Crowds: NONE!!!!!

A nice lil sess before work.

Went to Wa-Wa at night. Surf and ski in the same day is pretty weird.

ANyone else hit up the winter?

did you have a dry suit? and what about on your feet? you;re crazy.....i am assuming those are Fehrenheit temps

A 6/5/4 wetsuit is just fine. Plus 7 mm booties and 5 mm gloves. I was actually quite toasty.

My friends never believe me, but I'm usually more warm when I surf the winter than when I go skiing. Its weird, but true.

Drysuits are a big no-no. In the .01% chance of it ripping, you could be screwed. That thing could fill up and sink you to the bottom. Nevermind once the integrity of the suit is busted, you're going to get blasted w/ water in the 30s and catch hypothermia quite rapidly!! Thick wetsuits are the way to be!

yea i surf in aus in the winter but it only gets to bout 10 degrees(celcius) so i just rock a steamer and im sweet

^ ye the temp is sweet at bondi just shit swell east sydney surfing is shit compared to north and south
