Winter park, keystone, and whatever else for highschool ski trip

ok so here is the story. I go to school in DC and we have an annual ski/board trip for around 50 kids or so over MLK weekend or thereabouts. we had been going to smuggs untill two years ago, when my friend and i decided we had enough and lobbied the moderator to go out west instead. we have been going to the canyons for the past two years, and for our group, it was almost perfect. this year, however, the sundance film fest is the same weekend as the one we can do a trip this year. park city is completely booked, so we cant go to the canyons, or really any where else in the PC area. i have been thinking about other resorts to go to that would accomodate our group for a relatively low price. (around 900/1000 pp) so far, i have been thinking about winterpark or keystone mostly. they have good group sales and are decently convenient. i know they both have good parks, but how are they outside of it? the group consists of kids ranging from fairly beginner, to a few kids who can ski everything (park, trees, steeps, BC whatever). the majority of kids are just decent. i would like to find a place with good steeps/trees, fairly affordable, good accomodations, and a decent park. any suggestions or feedback would be awesome. thanks alot.

50 kids? high school? MLK week?
dont come to colorado at all holmes. go to washington or something.

winter park is a better all around mountain than keystone. WP has better big mountain/ tree skiing than keystone but keystones park is amazing

yeah true. i know the keystone park is ill, but i have heard good stuff about WP too. i think we are also looking into solitude and brighton. how crowded will the colo resorts be over that weekend? thanks + karma

thats what i was saying dude. MLK weekend is THE busiest weekend for skiing. add that to the already huge tourist numbers in colorado and you have a mad house. youre group isnt the only one that wants to go skiing. dont come to colorado.

i knew that sounded wrong. i forgot what the other one was. pres. day is first MLK is second. depending on area.

winter park is amazing... they have really good train and a really nice parks. IF all you wanna do is ski park go to keystone because the mt is really lame but there park is sick... wp has a bunch of steep stuff and a bunch of beginner stuff..

haha, keystone has decent tree skiing, though i would never claim either one had big mountain skiing. i'd say breck would be the best bet for good variety and good park if you want colorado...

I went to keystone for springbreak two years ago. I though it was pretty nice, awesome park, nice long groomer for beginners, and decent tree skiing. I was there for 4 days and had no POW though. Still had a great time and would good back.

thanks for all the help guys ++ karma for you all. what do you guys think about solitude/brighton?

WP is probably one of my favorite mtns. it has everything and it has a good feeling to it. their park was dope this year too. Just keep in mind that you need like a park pass to get into their big park, but all you have to do is watch a video and pay $20. its worth it because then the park is all yours pretty much.

No contest Winter Park

WP has MaryJane which is crazy sick

keystone has a good park...but always seems to be filled with 4X as many people, mainlt boarders

if you somechow can get a goood deal on these places to

-Vail--> awsome if your looking for backbowls and terrain

-Steamboat--> sick ski town vibe and the home of the BEST ski day ever for me

yeah im leaning more towards WP than keystone for sure. and if i can i will definitely try for vail, but i dont think its very feasible. thanks for all the help guys keep the suggestions coming

WP is a lot better all around and their park is pretty good too. for a ski trip you should go to WP instead of keystone.

WINTERPARK, is much better for a school ski trip. Their park is way sick and the Mary Jane side has a lot of good tree skiing and that stuff, and the Winterpark side has a lot of beginner stuff.

ok so i talked to the moderator and we have it narrowed down to solitude/brighton and winterpark so far. would dolitude be more crowded than usual because of sundance? also, what kind of stuff is there to do at solitude after skiing? (restaurants etc) same question there for winterpark. so basically, give me your thoughts on those two.

ive been going to brighton once a year for the last couple seasons, its nice because its got less older family type people and more kids in the late teens and 20's, so its less yuppyish if you will. as for the skiing its sick, usually has a solid park and plenty of glades and bowls especially if you know where to go

The park at WP is a failure but they have sick terrain thats separted from the rest of the mountain, do no gapers usually. Keystone has a park but not much else.

Im gonna have to say keystone on this one, because A51 is straight dope. stuff for beginners and pros, its got everything. Also, if you do some snoopin, you can find amazing cliffs/glades that branch out from the bowls. go to the bowls, 5 bucks for a cat ride all the way up, and a steep run the way down. though its a little pricey, the food also kicks ass

My old high school started a "ski club" and we went to Breck my senior year. About 30 something people went. Though they did it for three years and now they can't do it because the county school board = bullshit. Anywho, everyone else had a great time, but then again everyone else was a massive gape. Now that I've told you my life story I'd say try Breck.

yeah we decided on 2 days at breck and 1 at keystone. there are like 5 or so good skiers and like 11 good boarders, at least for park, but it should be a sweet trip

maybe try whistler blackcomb, i bet that would be super expensive though. i dont know if they celebrate mlk weekend in canadia

damn dude last year we set up a trip at my school to go to winter park during feb break for 5 days

it was like 1200 and the condo was ill and close to the mtn.

wp itself was soo dope too, sick parks and awesome terrain

but i guess you guys already made the palns

have fun!

way to expensive to get to. flying into bozeman is expensive as hell (i do it 3 or 4 times a year) and even billings isnt that cheap. summit resorts they can fly into DIA for dirt cheap and rent a bus or whatever

yeah im super pumped, havent skied CO since i was like 4. haha this is going to be the first time ill go to a place with a sick park, and im hitting 2 of the best in three days, so im psyched.

i tried to lobby for whistler or big sky, but going to canada is a bitch with a group that big and big sky would be too hard to get to. also, there are only like three kids on that whole trip who can do any sort of big mountain stuff worth anything.
