Just wanted to add a little bit to the information floating around about Windows 8

http://tech.slashdot.org/story/11/09/14/2219226/Windows-8-Roundup

From Slashdot

There has been no shortage of Windows 8 news today."MrSeb writes: Earlier this morning, at the Build Windows conference in Anaheim, California, Microsoft made it patently clear that 'To the cloud!' is not merely a throwaway phrase: it is the entire future of the company. Every single one of Microsoft's services, platforms, and form factors will now begin its hasty, leave-no-prisoners-behind transition to the always-on, internet-connected cloud."[/i]netbuzz pointed out that even the famous Blue Screen of Death will get a new look."Lastly mikejuk writes: While everyone else is looking at the surface detail of Windows 8 there are some deep changes going on. Perhaps the biggest is that Metro now provides an alternative environment that doesn't use the age old Win32 API. This means no more overlapping windows — yes Metro really does take the windows out of Windows."[/i]

Plus, new Blue Screen of Death

Just throwing this out there

I'm being forced to lean all the new windows 10 software and windows 7. I fucking want XP back in our school.

.... i hope thats a joke. I thought xp was horrible. I was running x64 bit right when it first came out tho, and nothing was supported

I'm so tempted to give you login info for the test i've been practicing a year and a half for. Just so you can see how hard that shit is

my brother has a beta running on one of his computers. and i know its not a finished product, but it looks like a smartphone OS thats blown up to a 15in screen.

i didnt see anything that was going to make me more productive or enhance my user experience.

i dont need to scroll through pages of icons that take up 1/4 of the screen. this isnt my phone.

if they can somehow figure out a way to make a desktop OS that can also function as a tablet OS i get what they are going for, i just hope they dont go to far over the edge making it look and act like a toy instead of something usable an efficient.

if it actually works out the way they want that might be pretty cool. except that everything cloud related can be controlled more easily.

Hard drives are essential for at least another 25 years. You really think the U.S. has the capability to roll out that type of broadband in 5-6 years? Ahahahaha

personally, i'm gonna stick with harddrives. i don't want anything to do with this Cloud stuff unless i'm using it for evil.

There really have not been any "true" innovations in computing in the past 10 years. This have gotten smaller and faster but name one thing in the past 10 years that have completely changed the industry and isn't a revision of a previous technology. They just recently, maybe 2 weeks ago, announced a MAJOR advancement in quantum computing. It's still 5-10 years away from even coming close to replacing current processors.

We will absolutely NOT have the broadband on a scale to make cloud computing worth it. Would I enjoy it if we did? Of course! But the simple fact of the matter is no company will pony up and pay for this [to happen quicker] unless they absolutely have to. The U.S. Government has been the single driving force behind new technology and they just don't have the ability, interest, whatever to bring broadband to people on a large scale. Believe me, I can barely get cell service at my house. We've had cable for 5 years. And I live 20 miles from the 5th largest city in NYS. This isn't bumfuck, it's the fucking suburbs.

And yes. Many things have. Take for example, the HARD DRIVE. In essence we're moving at the same speed we always have. Moore's law is in full effect. The hard drive as we know it will evolve and become less of a permanent storage platform and more of a transitional device between your device and the cloud. Manufacturers will not ship a product without storage for a long time. There's absolutely no way for them to guarantee connectivity to the cloud 100% of the time. That being said, they will definitely test it, and some already are, so when that connectivity is available they'll already have an idea of how feasible it is.

you have probably never used windows 7.

windows vista is the biggest crap microsoft released after windows ME.

yeah that's what i'm saying "hell no" to. shit's mine, Cloud can't have it. i can take care of my own files.

Well like you said below, they already have most of that info accessible. The problem is politics. I'm sure they would LOVE to have more info but the politicians would be castrated if they even brought up the topic of bringing high speed to local areas when there are millions unemployed. Personally, I think they could solve both problems at the same time. But that's a whole other subject.

I'm extremely excited to see what the internet brings in the next few years. It will be the private sector that really pushes forward, as long as politics don't get in the way.

I HAVE VISTA. I HAVE NO PROBLEMS WITH IT.

PEOPLE ARE ALWAYS GETTING SO BENT OUT OF SHAPE ABOUT OPERATING SYSTEMS. YOU'LL EVENTUALLY GET USED TO IT. AND PEOPLE ALWAYS THINK THEIRS IS THE BEST....ITS NOT.

THIS IS WHAT I DONT GET...

I CAN PLAY ALL THE GAMES I WANT

MAKE EDITS

LISTEN TO MUSIC

HAVE INTERNET

MAKE MUSIC

ALL I NEED, SO WHY IS IT TERRIBLE?

after using windows 7 for like 6 months it has grown on me. I now love it. I find it simple to use and less cluttered than xp, vista, etc...
