"It's astounding that until this moment, three years after the

iPhone, the biggest software company in the world basically didn't

compete in mobile. Windows Phone 7 Series is more than the Microsoft smartphone we've been waiting for. Everything's different now.

Today, at Mobile World Congress

in Barcelona, Microsoft is publicly previewing Windows Phone 7 for the

first time. The brand new, totally fresh operating system will appear

in phones this year, but not until the holidays. All of the major

wireless carriers and every likely hardware maker are backing it, and

they'd be stupid not to. It's awesome. Further details are forthcoming,

but here is what you need to know:

The name—Windows Phone 7 Series—is a mouthful, and unfortunately, the epitome of Microsoft's worst naming instincts, belying the simple fact that it's the most groundbreaking phone since the iPhone.

It's the phone Microsoft should've made three years ago. In the same

way that the Windows 7 desktop OS was nearly everything people hoped it

would be, Windows Phone 7 is almost everything anyone could've dreamed

of in a phone, let alone a Microsoft phone. It changes everything. Why?

Now that Microsoft has filled in its gaping chasm of suck with a

meaningful phone effort, the three most significant companies in

desktop computing—Apple, Google and Microsoft—now stand to occupy the

same positions in mobile. Phones are officially computers that happen

to fit in your pocket.

Windows Phone 7 is also something completely new for Microsoft: A

total break from the past. Windows Mobile isn't just dead, the body's

been dumped, buried and paved over by a rainbow brick road."

Sounds pretty interesting. Click the link for the full review. They are trying to change the ways Mobile Operating Systems work, and it is pretty cool what may come from this. Plus XBOX! How cool is that? This looks like an OS the could blow IPhone OS out of the water.

been waiting for this day for several months. im quite satisfied. recently microsoft has upped the competition in my opinion, and i think theyre only getting better. zune and xbox integration are a plus, but adobe claims it will have no flash support until later builds. im stoked though, and ill prolly be buying a windows 7 series phone in september.

Ya I'm definitely interested. MS seems to really be changing their model and taking customer feedback which is great. Windows 7 kills it, best OS I've ever used and I'm curious to see how this new Mobile OS works on phones.

Mp3 player- iPod Touch

Computer/Laptop- HP G60

Phone- Motorola Droid

So I've been on all ends of the spectrum here and I don't know about a Microsoft phone.

I upgraded to Windows 7 and I want Windows Vista back. Never had a problem with and I've actually had a few problems with Windows 7. Plus I really don't like the layout in general.

With Windows 7, I tend to see that some programs freeze up more than with windows vista. Some of the more prevalent programs like Google Chrome and Itunes.. freeze up more on Windows 7, which is very uncharacteristic for Chrome because I never once had a problem with it on Windows Vista. Itunes always froze up on windows for me, so I wasn't surprised there. It may be the average laptop that I have but I don't get why I never had problems with vista. Was W7 maybe built for more powerful computers?

HAHAAHHA yes!

Anyway, I too am skeptical. Windows 7 has a lot of fixes, but its still windows and lets be honest Win7 still is pretty unpredictable. Oh and microsoft failed real hard last time they made a mobile os. IT was slow as fuck. Ok, I'm not skeptical, im hopefully excited.

Where you running 32bit or 64bit? If you were running the wrong software version for your OS that could be part of the problem. Windows 7 is far less memory and hardware intensive than Vista was, as well as a much more stable OS. There is little reason why you should see hangs in either of those programs, I've never had a problem using either. The only possibility I can think of is if you had a somewhat flawed install or else you were trying to run too many programs at a time. I will have freezes if I am running like iTunes, 10-15 tabs open in Firefox and Photoshop at the same time, but even then it's not a real freeze, it just can hang occasionally due to the RAM being run at full capacity.

As for the OS I'm pretty hopeful. The last Windows Mobile OS sucked hardcore, I never met anyone that liked it. Microsoft is putting out some awesome products lately though and I think if they take their new direction in to the Mobile world they may have some good results.

im on wm6.1 and its absolute garbage. it takes sometimes up to 5 seconds to switch from portrait to landscape mode. using a htc s720 btw.

i really agree with you and how microsoft is listening to their customers. now i just wanna see some wm7 series hardware!
