Windells Adult - Worth it?

So I'm debating on going to Windells as an adult. Not that old, just 21. I feel like it could be fun, I did a camp last year during the day at boreal with a friend, but we were the only two people over the age of probably 15. My justification is I've barley rode at all this year. Tahoe was pitiful during January when I was home for break, and other than maybe 3 weekends in Mammoth after that, I ended my season with a pretty badly broken wrist.

So...any experience? Gimme some advice. Worth it?

Inb4 pedo bear....

Anyways even though your 21, probably worth it. I've never been to camp but I've heard lots of good things about them. If I was 21 and had the dough and time to go, I'd do it.

I would suggest instead if you could to get a group of friends together and camp in the area, saving a ton of money. I went when I was 15(?) and don't think I could now but totally want to crash there sometime for a few weeks.

Money issue is more of a parent thing I'm not concerned about that, just not trying to be surronded by little kids the entire time. basically is it well attended? or for the adults that go, do they shred? i read some forums on the subject via google search and adults were asking if they needed boards n such, if never snowboarding/skiing or being a beginner is an issue, etc. I'm not a pro by any means, but basically seeking experience from someone who has done windells or something equiv. as an adult. thanks for the input some of you though, i went as a kid and it was dope, i just feel like the experience as an adult has the potential to be sick, but i mean i was little so idk what it would be like to do it older

i went to windells a couple years ago when i was 18. i had already been a freshman in college. i went with my brother and cousin, who were both younger than me. since i didn't want to be by myself in the "adult" house, i stayed with my brother and cousin in the oldest house you could without being an adult. it was like 15 - 17 year olds i guess. and i'll be perfectly honest, i felt a little too old for it.

windells was pretty fun, don't get me wrong. trampolines were ill, food wasn't bad, cool to ski in the summer. i didn't get to go over to the adult house but i heard it was pretty fun. they have a hot tub and stuff.

windells does have a lot of younger kids around. by age 21, like if i were going now looking back on it, i'd be kinda ehh about it.

if i were you, i would kinda maybe save it for a getaway with your friends or something. like go to park city, or aspen, or wherever you want. because if you think about it, windells is like what, probably 1,900 or so now plus a flight? you could go to these places and spend probably 1,000 - 1,500 and have a nice week of skiing and lodging and food (then you have to buy a flight still, but whatever.) but then you get to do whatever you want, you're not on any schedule or anything, and what not.

but then again, i didn't get exactly the same experience as the other "adults." but i was there after all, so i kinda know what's up.

pm me if you have any questions.

worked at windells for 5 years. each session has on average 10 to 20 adult campers (ages 18+). you stay in a separate house just across the street from campus. in addition to being able to take part in all of the regular camp activities the adult campers have a separate agenda with their own activities which include dinners our in the surrounding area, trips to portland, private after hours time in BOB, etc. from my experience it seems the adult campers have the most fun. you have the option to stick to a schedule and do the activities or you can just make up your own plan and go your own way, you are an adult after all. This freedom or structure appeals to a lot i think. Think of it like an all inclusive vacation. also the adult campers get to know the staff and visiting pros on a more friendly level than the campers sometimes do because they are generally the same age and hang out after hours.

so in summary i would suggest going for it. you get to do all the fun stuff you did as a kid and have zero responsibility. and if you want to be an adult and do grown up stuff, you can also do that.

If I had 1500 to spend on a ski vacation, I'd put that money in the bank and plan a heli ski trip some where or cat trip when the snows is big fluffy pillows, not slush. I just throwing that out there.

For real though, what are you looking to get out of camp? Are you just going to get some skiing in, or do you want a coach, and campus, and activities and all that stuff? Because if you want to participate in a camp, I'd say send it. It might be weird being older than most of the people there, but there's nothing wrong with a little childish fun.

If you're just trying to ski, use the same amount of money and get a plane ticket, a place to stay, and just ski the public park for twice as long as you'd be there for camp.

Man, i'm 23 and in a similar situation this year. Got no skiing in, and then knew I was gonna do a ski trip

I researched windells and whistler and everything else for summer skiing, but in the end your best bet it just to get somewhere out of north america. Those camps are so expensive, and for the same price you could go somewhere that actually has snow and not just slush, ride real terrain and not just park, and hang out with people who are actually your age

Best bets are either chilie (although this gets expensive if you do it through evolve), argentina, or new zealand

I ended up settling on NZ, for the price of a couple weeks at camp I'm doing 5 weeks down there. Air new zealand has a pretty good seat sale going on right now too

Anyways best of luck in your decision

I feel like it would make more sense to either go to Evolve (Chile) or even Momentum. It seems like you'd have more adult-friendly options.

I'm also curious about this, i haven't been to a ski camps in so long, i think high north was the last place i've been.

I'm going to be 19 by the time i'd be at camp, and definitely curious how these adult sessions are?

The main reason i'm going is to really get some good summer training in and get some new tricks on lock.

It's definitely spendy and i'd just like to hear some other peoples opinions on if it's worth it as an adult and what not?!

Thanks

Just ski public, just as fun. Fuck, may is the time to be there, 100 bucks for all of may.

money wasn't really the issue more of a experience wise kind of thing, which is why I generally wanted input from people that have actually been as adults.

trips to new zealand or south america could be sick, but i have about 10 days off between moving back home and summer school so i dont want to go travel for months in hostils or spend 1k on beer, good input though... ha.

I am 21 and I just registered for Session 4. There's not a doubt in my mind that I will have an awesome time and learn allot you should most def go.

didn't read most of the thread but if you can make it up to whistler I've heard that momentum and CoC are fun if you're 19+

Sure do, check the video/info for Momentum's Adult Camp...

Would highly recommend that if you want to get some good skiing, more adult activities, and partying in sign up for Session 5...

If you want to really progress at your high level park riding, sign up for Session 3 (plus we currently have some chicks in their 20's signed up for Session 3!)

Hit us up if you have any other questions: info@momentumcamps.com

Cheers!

Would love to go to one of these at some point, it's quite far away from Norway though. Momentum adult camp looks interesting!

This seems like it would be considerably better than Windells. I would either do this or save up for a trip to Breck or something this winter.

have you thought about coming back to boreal again? for woodward? such a sick facility and alot better coaches! it was fun last year, guarantee it will be better this year!

yea noah was thinking about it but theres no snow in tahoe such a bummer of a season. plus it went up like a grand in cost, figured hood was worth it for the same price
