Will this be a problem?

Terribly sorry if this belongs in ski gabber.

I'm a 5'8ish 180 pound guy, very short and stocky, and last year I rode 155 punx. Super fun skis but incredibly too short for me. This season I've got some 178 chronics and my mountain just opened so I had my first chance to try them out (already been urban skiing a bunch with the punx).

178 is long, but not waaay too long for me, yet I felt like I was going to die at the beginning of the day and by then end I was only mildly confident. I couldn't ski switch at all but maybe thats cause the edges desperately need tuning.

Will this get better as I get used to them?

Is this just cause it's such a big size jump?

Are shorter skis necessary?

Wat do NS?

why would the length of the ski inhibit your ability to ski switch? The only answer is that you couldnt ski switch before either.

I could totally slay switch on the punx

I'm 5'9 and ski 181-184's and have zero problem whipping them around. Also 175lbs. All based on what youre used to riding and ability.

Its the size jump. Trust me youll be killin it and feeling better than ever in like a week.

yep, i went from about a 160 to a 188 and i was terrified. but now i feel really confident

Stick with the Chronics. I am 5'2" and have no problems throwing around my 172 Lizzies, or my 178 Nurtures. You don't need shorter skis. The jump in size is throwing you off. Every time I switch from my 178 Nurtures to my 164 jib skis, it takes a run or two to adjust.

I am 5'8" 140lb and I ride 176-181 in the park. Would never go any shorter. The extra stability is definitely worth the extra swing weight. Also, longer skis will allow you to go way faster.

It's most likely the transition from crazy short to the right length. 155 is like junior skis so it's for sure gonna be a difference but once you get used to it you'll question how the hell you were able to shred those punx. Keep the Chronics, youll like them.

Its because you basically were skiing on little kid skis. Now you have real skis. You will get use to it and be stoked! Just keep getting out there, maybe even hit the gym and work on your leg strength

Thanks so much for all the help guys! I was worried but everyone seems to think ill be good so i'll keep em
