Will parts of Japan become a ghost town?

With everything that's happening in Japan I have really been diving into the subject of nuclear energy. I ended up watching this BBC documentary on the Chernobyl incident of 1986. Now I know technology is better now but Japan's nuclear crisis will be far worse then Chernobyl's and after looking at creepy pictures of Chernobyl now I'm wondering if sort of the same will happen in Japan.... I know kind of a crazy theory but think about it. With the mass of radiation that's already being released there's no way people can safely live around the plants.....
Those are just my 2 cents but I'd like to hear what others have to say! And for visual purposes here are pictures of Chernobyl.

ITS NOT GOING TO BE FUCKING CHERNOBYL 2.0

But yes....the areas around the plants wont be habitable for a long, long, long time.

Have you seen pics of those old military bases in Alaska? They are completely abandoned, but look like modern towns complete with restaurants like mcdonalds still perfectly intact with no vandalism or anything, these places must be incredibly strange at night

I would just search for them, I saw them on my aunt and uncles blog but it was about a year and a half ago when they visited there, so it's probably hard to find on there. They are going around the world on their boat and they stopped there, I'll try to find them and I can post a link

According to the news right now, in most parts of Japan save the areas around the nuclear plants, the radiation levels are like 0.367 sieverts, which is like 10 times less than the amount of radiation that is given off when you get an X-ray. Soo....in all likelihood this wont end up being a Chernobyl 2.0, but there will be places in which a Chernobyl 2.0 will happen. Such as the areas directly around and a little bit outside the leaking reactors. But those reactors provide a lot of power to Japanese cities....so its unlikely that the areas will become COMPLETELY unpopulated.

I'm not trying to be a ass hole but you have to remember that this is the country that blew up pearl harbor during ww2. What goes around comes around. During hurricane Katrina they did not come to are need. they do not need or dissever are help.

if you looked into nuclear energy then you should know that this will NOT be another cherynobl. but still leave it up to the russians to put a bad name on something.

no because the meltdown is just an overhyped media scare tactic bullshit. this is not chernobyl. a chernobyl like incident is fucking impossible here. straight up impossible. chernobyl was because the russians were like "what would happen if we induced a meltdown in this totally fucking poorly built nuclear reactor facility which we dont know how to use in the firstplace?"

japan is all like "what if we used our vast intelligence and advanced tools to keep this damaged, but very solidly and properly built nuclear power plant in working order and both kept the general populace and the power grid and environment and shit in good condition"

no. look what happened to Hiroshima, its still a bustling city 60 years after it got bombed.

Not trying to be an ass but this post is completely irrelevant / ignorant, its a much different world than it was in 1941, Emporer Hirohito isnt running the show anymore. and im pretty sure with the very strong trade relations / debt that we have with the East Asian region the help is deserved

No, importing goods from over seas. in the 1950's we the US population made almost every electronic device in this world. But slowly we lost are economy because of lower wages over seas. yes we still manufacture things in the US but not nearly enough to keep all of our billions of people working. are goverment will have to decide what is better a terible unemploud rate or haveing a lower. Did you now that there has not been 1 TV manufactured in the US in 35 years but in the 1950's every TV in the world and most automobiles where manufactured here.

if what goes around comes around then the US is fucked because we nuked japan. I dissagree with you, I think since we dropped a few on them we need to make it up

They attacked a military base on an island without a large civilian population, we nuked large cities. I think we win on the douchebag scale.

Congrats. You can now join the thousands of other ignorant americans currently ruining americas image with their blatant stupidity.

At that abandoned town in ak, you can buy a 4plex (4 connected houses) for around $5,000 and they look to be in good shape.
