not sure what you mean by that "really?" I guess I'll elaborate.
I don't have any hard stats, but the majority of deaths in the backcountry are people on snowmobiles (at least in British Columbia), and more often than not, they died due to stupidity.
The problem comes when the media gets the information and spreads their misinformation, with both the media and general public clumping all "backcountry users" into one group. It's really annoying when "people" try to tell me that what I am doing is unsafe and something should be done about it, because a group of sledders did something stupid and died.
