Why the head butt?

So this is all speculation but here are some of the things that I have heard/read on ESPN and ESPN.com today.

On the play just before the head butt the Italian defender twisted Zidane's nipple.

The Italian guy called Zidane(whose parents immigrated to France from Algeria) a "dirty terrorist."

Now I think it is hard to justify what Zidane did but a racial slur like this would come close in my eyes.
 
In hockey, players start fights to pump up their team.

In baseball, managers get themselves ejected for the same reason.

Just throwing it out there, but maybe part of the reason was to pump his team for the pks.
 
weren't they real big on slide tackles from behind too? and isn't that incredibly illegal; like automatic red card/boot?

The rules should be changed similar to hockey in relation to dives. I watched a few soccer games and soooooo many guys will fall and pretend they've got compound fractures and as soon as a call is made, they hop back up. You dive or fake something, atleast lose posession of the ball.
 
yeah.....too many dives....way to many. If he would have called me a terrorist, i would have flipped out soo bad no matter what situation. If the italian did say that, then he deserves what happend to him.
 
has anyone tried it since they saw it. my older brother did it to me lightly and it hurts, if you havent, then try it, its fun
 
i saw the kind of replay, even though it wasnt caught in the origional broadcast, and the italian player seemed to hold him back a little with one arm, zidane yelled something at him and then the italian said something kind of calmly with a bit of a smirk. so then zidane promptly turned 180 while they were both still running and headbutted him, i would say if anything zidane was just super pissed at something he had said
 
Ya your brother did it to you, but think about how hard those guys can head the ball. I bet it knocked the wind out of that guy for sure.

^ no its not. Fool. Only if your a fucking faggot. Did you see how some of the players would help each other up and shit after a rough play? That is how the sport should be played. You rarely saw that happen though from an Italy player.
 
Shit talking SHOULDN'T be a part, but it is. Anyone who plays soccer knows that shit gets talked alot. Whether you do it or not, you hear it. Yeah, people help each other up after a small foul or something, but what about when they think it was a bad call? They flip out and scream at the ref.
 
retard. shitalking is a way to get yurself kicked out, i had to learn that when registering to be a godamn ref.
 
i'm not even going to bother arguing with you folks anymore. if you've ever played a game of soccer you know that shittalking is just fucking standard, refs hardly can even hear that shit. let alone see and make the right calls. if shittalking can get you that riled up than the opposing player achieved their goal (teehee no pun intended)of pysching you out.
 
^It shouldnt be though. Players that feel they need to do that are weak. Beat me with your actions, not your words. Plus, if you really piss me off, im huge, and ill be seeing you in the parking lot.
 
come on now steve u CLEARLY dont know the game of soccer....thats how the game is played!!! you try and get into the other teams skin....mazzerati cracked zidane...he set him off...usually you just have to srug it off becasue in the end the other person will win if you retaliate...and it just gets you more pissed off....do you think that Italy is the only team to screw with others??? NO....did u see when italy had the first free kick and grosso was in the wall...and the french player was stomping his ankles and feet?? its hos the game is played you cannot say italy is the only team that has ever, and that still does antagonize other players.
 
they didnt head but nobody trash talk is in every sport, it is the person that cant take it and does a stupid thing like head butting another player.

in hockey it is usually a goon vs a star player THE GOAL TO GET THE STAR PLAER OUT OF T6HE GAME what Zidane did is inexcusable espicially for a player of his statis. this is like if michael Jordan punched john stockton in the face for talking shit to him in game 7 of the finals with 2 minutes left

I hate the Italian team. I'm glad Zidane stood up for himself and his family. This wasn't the first time Zidane has head butted someone; he did it a while back, but it was to the face of the player and it looked like he broke the guys nose. Anyways the Italians all they do is fucking hack, I hate them.
 
werd jordan was amzing at trash talkin. he would just fuck with peoples heads like im the best you know im the best...and shit like that. and soccer is such a racist game, cuz think of like nazis in germany goin to games and just chantin racial slurs at blacks and stuff. they did a thing abouot it on sportscenter it was fucked up
 
and now fifa is launching an investigation that can only hurt italy. if they can prove it was racist, italy may lose the championship
 
there are many possibilities of why he did it but i still think he should have kept his composure...i mean it was his last game...ever... i dont think thats how i'd want to go out..
 
yeah i guess it IS a part but i don't think it's cool. i'm a pretty clean player and what not but i do know how to play dirty and get away with it but i don't like bad mouthing unless someones being an idiot. last night this big fat ass who is one of those guys who thinks he can do anything because hes bigger then me, i leveled him the fuck out on a tackle and it shut him up the rest of the night.

you can tackle from behind as long as you dont hit their legs first right? its considered clean if you touch the ball first i think.
 
didnt bother reading the thread but, he headbutted the guy because its more bad-ass then just punching him, i mean he layed him out wiht the head butt, it was so awesome
 
I saw that too, but the head guy DID say that they were going to start banning people from the stadiums if they start acting up like that.
 
Nope. It's FIFA rules that you cannot tackle from behind, it's considered dangerous play. They may get away with it because it is clean and the ref. doesn't want to stop the game but for the most part, you can't tackle from behind.
 
Italy is so dirty. they dive the most, talk shit the most, fake injuries, cry about every fucking call, and many italian teams, such as juventes, have been accused of paying off the refs. I think Zidane did it to show Americans that there are some French badasses and that France isnt that big of a pussy country.
 
well, zidane is supposed to be releasing what materazi said.

Whatever happens, this whole final was so sketchy, the headbutt with a red card that the ref never saw and stuff like that. Fifa blew it
