Why the black background

Screen shot, browser and OS please?

if this is what I think you're seeing you might just need to do a cache refresh. Try another browser too and let me know if its still happening.
 
that has happened to me before but it normally goes away pretty quick. just refresh the page

I think i found the cause of this problem by accident.

If you change your scale in google chrome to something below 100% it makes every background gray/black.

This can happen when you are holding control unknowingly and scroll at the same time.
