Why Smoke Weed??

There were no facts, it was logic and oppinion. Get your reading skills together and figure out that im not attacking the recreational use of mary-j.

My point was pretty simple. Weed isnt bad for you...but it isnt good, its like most things in life; nothing is all bad or all good.

My point was that vehiment defense of marijuana has very little to do with whether its good for you and a lot do do with enjoying the high. Attempting to make weed appear good for you is just absurd. Just accept its health shortcommings and rationalize its use through the derived pleasure or learning from the altered perspective.

There is no cross above my computer nor halo above my head, simply spare me the conspiracy theory and half assed "not that bad" logic and get real.

Weed is actually known to cause major memory loss after extended use, and there is no GOOD reason to do it. You can enjoy life without just as much as you can with it. Why would you start? Why would you light something on fire and inhale the fumes on purpose to disorient yourself? I mean I wake up, and find something to do, usually skiing, or building ramps, or take photos or sometimes I just chill with my friends. I never think. I should go spend large amounts on something I am going to smoke, that has the chance of getting me in trouble, makes me operate worse, and in the long run is going to inhibit my normal brain function. Sounds stupid to me.

But some people like it and they will swear it makes them happy. Just like some people like to hang themselves from hooks in their basement. Pointless.

yea it does sound stupid but when youre a teenager and your job is to be stupid its so worth it because its soooo fun and youre just saying it like parents say it haha

Its your job to be ignorant from lack of knowledge or experience because you are young, but now you know better you are just being plain dumb. I smoked alot when I was like 14 - 15 and no its not that fun. I'm 19 now and I always have something better to do and actual yhave respect for my mind. Its not being grown up, I am irresponsible as they come but I don't do things that are pointless.

No one has ever made it in this world if they smoked or smoke marijuana.

LoL. just kidding. Hrmmm two people come to mind. Bob Marley and Notorious BIG. Yea sure they may have not led the perfect lives that some of you non smokers seeem to be living in this thread, but they have made some of the biggests impacts on our world through music, think about that. There are alot more too.

People have been smoking since time began, you act like its something new. Its just part of life.

oh yea.

okay first that post was a joke im not fucking retarded and yes you have a good point but maybe some people really like smoking weed and you did when you were 14-15 and just kind of grew out of it but that doesnt mean that other people dont like it. and yes i know you were saying more than just that in your post but liking a lot effectively encompasses why one would do it if you speak down on it so much... but smoking pot is way to cool for me now so im gonna start pretending to be really against marijuana... this is officially my last pro-marijuana post outside of 420. from now on if anyone brings this up im going to make up ridiculous statistics and talk like you... only really ignorantly. like the kid who made this thread only X100000000000000000 + radical religous right.

Study Finds No Cancer-Marijuana Connection

By Marc Kaufman

Washington Post Staff Writer

Friday, May 26, 2006; Page A03

The

largest study of its kind has unexpectedly concluded that smoking

marijuana, even regularly and heavily, does not lead to lung cancer.

The

new findings "were against our expectations," said Donald Tashkin of

the University of California at Los Angeles, a pulmonologist who has

studied marijuana for 30 years

setTimeout('update_delicious_form(delicious_cookie)',

"We hypothesized that there would be a positive association between

marijuana use and lung cancer, and that the association would be more

positive with heavier use," he said. "What we found instead was no

association at all, and even a suggestion of some protective effect."

Federal

health and drug enforcement officials have widely used Tashkin's

previous work on marijuana to make the case that the drug is dangerous.

Tashkin said that while he still believes marijuana is potentially

harmful, its cancer-causing effects appear to be of less concern than

previously thought.

Earlier work established that marijuana does

contain cancer-causing chemicals as potentially harmful as those in

tobacco, he said. However, marijuana also contains the chemical THC,

which he said may kill aging cells and keep them from becoming

cancerous.

Tashkin's study, funded by the National Institutes of

Health's National Institute on Drug Abuse, involved 1,200 people in Los

Angeles who had lung, neck or head cancer and an additional 1,040

people without cancer matched by age, sex and neighborhood.

They

were all asked about their lifetime use of marijuana, tobacco and

alcohol. The heaviest marijuana smokers had lighted up more than 22,000

times, while moderately heavy usage was defined as smoking 11,000 to

22,000 marijuana cigarettes. Tashkin found that even the very heavy

marijuana smokers showed no increased incidence of the three cancers

studied.

"This is the largest case-control study ever done, and

everyone had to fill out a very extensive questionnaire about marijuana

use," he said. "Bias can creep into any research, but we controlled for

as many confounding factors as we could, and so I believe these results

have real meaning."

Tashkin's group at the David Geffen School of

Medicine at UCLA had hypothesized that marijuana would raise the risk

of cancer on the basis of earlier small human studies, lab studies of

animals, and the fact that marijuana users inhale more deeply and

generally hold smoke in their lungs longer than tobacco smokers --

exposing them to the dangerous chemicals for a longer time. In

addition, Tashkin said, previous studies found that marijuana tar has

50 percent higher concentrations of chemicals linked to cancer than

tobacco cigarette tar.

While no association between marijuana

smoking and cancer was found, the study findings, presented to the

American Thoracic Society International Conference this week, did find

a 20-fold increase in lung cancer among people who smoked two or more

packs of cigarettes a day.

The study was limited to people

younger than 60 because those older than that were generally not

exposed to marijuana in their youth, when it is most often tried.

i smoked a marijuana cigarette one day, and it was like the 17 previous years of my life were gone in an instant. Couldn't remember nuttin'.

Marijuana is the root of all evils.

i agree with you when you have a tolerance to it but do u remember your first couple of times when everyone just bugged out and became paranoid, no calmness there. Ecspecially when you smoke with most girls. But for me its like that, most kids i know are so loud and obnoxious when they're sober, but so mellow and lazy when high.

point taken. i wan't trying to say that it was actually, say, "good" for you, just that there's much worse things that are legal that you could be putting into your body.

Ya it's classified as a drug according to the government but so is alcohol and tobacco. There are no addictive properties at all. Cocaine is a drug, heroine is a drug an both rightfully so becuase they can be so harmful...and the sinus infection thing it's probably because your fuckin allergic to it. Also it's not really second hand smoke there are no harmful effect done to your lungs as it is a bronchial dialater...meaning it opens the blood vessels allowing you to breath better. So ya i'd like to see some evidence of weed's harmful effects.

Hahaha i think you guys can stop now the person who made the thread hasnt even made a post on it so i think he knows hes a dumbass.

ok like me i dont really like it but i dont say anything i let people do it but when it reaches the point when all they talk about is smokeing and thats all they do, i kick there ass cause im bigger then all my friends

This was basically my pont. Thanks for posting that very instresting article.

In that light I postulate that we further the discussion by altering the question as such: If weed really is not bad for you, why has its legalization for personal use been voted down?

I understand the taxation and paper company conspiracy theories, but if that were so how could it even come up for a vote? Why is the populous at large behind the current legal status of weed, even though a large percentage has tried it.

Why you ask? Because there are too many politicians with too much power who think it's wrong and there are always going to be those people everywhere. In Denver it was legalized for personal use on private property and that seems to be working fine...if only the whole country was like Denver

most potheads are the last ppl to use force? hippies? Go make out with some boys or something?

(had to fix the spelling error cause if the faggits riding my nuts had nothing else to say they would flame that)

HAHAHHA Reefer Madness is hilarious...we wacthed in it school and my teacher was like yeah I watched this high the first time and I laughed hysterically

i know its a big claim but im willing to make it. do you want me to compare sat scores with everyone in this thread against pot?

and you make some very intelligent posts, drew, i wish you wouldnt degrade them with making yourself sound like a douche calling people "junior". youre not as cool as you think

i hope youre not serious.

dope=not weed. what you just quoted is clearly NOT about a pothead, its about a DOPE FIEND. nice try though.

Dope does= weed yo. Anybody who has seen trailor park boys would know that. lol. All tomfoolery aside, i used to smoke back in the day, and i did find it was a good chill drug. Just relax you out. I smoked up on the hill all the time, and its like it would just take all that pussyness away before i would hit something. I sort of fell out of it, and i don't do it anymore. Now that im on the hill i feel that i can ski soo much better, like my reflexs are so much higher. All about personal preference. What i don't like is all these kids talking about it on this site like its the dick of god and their sucking it.

If you like to light it up, well awsome for you, but nobody gives a fuck. Just smoke up, have a good time with your friends, and shut up. Im just soo fed up of all these fuckin weed threads.

ist like masturbating. u know u shouldnt be doing, but does that stop you? u know if u get cought its gonna be awkward and bad. sometimes ur like "im gonna stop," but do you ever follow through? nope. and people who dont get it, obviously havent done it.

Obviously the OP made this just to get people angry and fired up, but whatever, I'll buy into it...

I hate the argument that it is a "waste of time". By that logic, everything in life we enjoy is a waste of time, as well. Why do you ski? Hang out with friends? Life is all about enjoying yourself and having a good time. Obviously everyone on this site agrees that skiing is one thing that they love to do. How is skiing less of a waste of time than smoking? Both are fun as hell, both can be harmful. Why are you better than me because one of the many ways I like to enjoy my life is by smoking with my buddies? Go fuck yourself.

dude the paper thing isnt a conspiracy theory like thats no secret the government admits that. and its illegal becsuse only less than a quarter of the population approves. whats there not to understand. ask all of the adults you know if it should be legal. do you think that theyre gonna say yes? because most of the adults i know would be opposed.

Because that's what is socially accepted. Ask those same adults you cite as your supporters and I'd be willing to bet most of them have not only tried pot, but have also enjoyed it.

oh yea totally, my mom smoked and liked it but i doubt she wants it legalized.

and also im really tired of people saying that smoking pot doesnt fuck with your memory. im a huge supporter and i love pot. but honestly like my short term memory is fucked compared to how it used to be unless i dont smoke for like a month. and im sure it will be when im old. but its not that bad, i can just put a string around my finger. hahaha.

I totally agree, thus i find it wierd that its hard to gain support for legalization.

If hemp was so much better than tree pulp for paper manufacturing, then it makes more sense that the government would throw up a tarrif on Mexican hemp imports and foster domestic production. The idea that the government is lost in the will of industry is always enticing, but never more than cirumstancial.

Lumber harvesting, for both pulp and board, is squirming under the pressure of environemntal lobbying, and asside from Interational Paper Corp. lacks the influence to dictate policy.

Competition with the paper industry just isnt strong enough to stand as the causal reason for making marijuana illegal; the very grounds of the argument seem to offer circumstancial only evidence.

dude weed is much safer then alcohol and its fun. Why drink? you just do it to have fun, its only dangerous in excess if you smoke a few j's in a month you're safe as can be its only when you smoke and ounce a day that you're in real trouble

when i chill with my friends we dont need weed to make us laugh, or we dont have to be totally wasted to have a good time, it just is fun without all that shit.
