Why skiing is better than snowboarding research paper

Hi. For my 9th grade english class i need to write a research paper. It needs to be 3-5 pages long and be something controversial or whatever. So I chose why skiing is better than snowboarding because i want it to have something to do with skiing. I don't actually think that skiing is better. but i just wanted to have it do with skiing because i dont want to do it on abortion or steriods. So ive got a few here they are.

There are freestyle skiing magazines in my library. But no snowboard magazines.

It takes forever for snowboarders to get in their bindinds.

They carve up the lip of the rail.

On a snowboard. you are limited on rails and stuff

Skis can pop off when your totally screwed. and snowboards cant.

You can sorta bail on skis easier than u can on a snowboard on rails.

These are just a few. but i need to help if you guys would. + karma to all

And don't give that gay "search bar" bull crap. its so old now
 
Dude, almost everything you based is almost entirely opinion based (which I suppose steroids and abortion are too).
My experience in highschool led me to the conclusion that you want to leave school for school and skiing for skiing...

That's a topic for a persuasive essay not a research paper, a shitty one at that. Why not write a paper about the history of skiing in Mongolia or something. Those cats battled on skis and shit.
 
A research paper based on your opinion. Sounds fucking retarded. Skiing isn't better than snowboarding, and snowboarding isn't better than skiing.

You like skiing, Travis Rice likes snowboarding, he is better at boarding than you are at skiing. Therefor, snowboarding is better than skiing......

PRetty much every skier can do doubles, its like a super easy trick, and only like one boarder is doing doubles, so, like, skiing is like so much better than like snowlerboarding!
 
Im so sick of these fucking threads.

1. write your own god damn paper.

2. write about something other than skiing. your teacher probably already knows you are a skier or doesn't give a shit... he/she wants to know that you can write about something remotely intellectual.
 
You can't write a good paper with a topic that shitty. That's why your English teacher has you write essays like this, so you can look at a topic and say "Wow that blows dick," pick a better one, and write a bomb essay. We'll help you out this time - that topic sucks. Pick a new one.
 
i hope all these people have changed your mind already but just to pick out another flaw in your argument, you said that snowboarders are limited on rails. snowboarders (at least for the moment) have a shit ton more possibilities on rails than skiers do. no matter which way youre sliding, and unless youre iannick b or andy parry youre limited to sliding sideways on skis when youre on a rail.
 
i would fail you if i was your english teacherthat subject is totaly based on your opinionwhat about "why is skiing blowing up more than snowboarding now"
 
Hey, do something on the history of skiing. How tech has changed our sport. Look, snowcats have changed the sport, snowboarding brought up park skiing (I believe so). Skis are very high tech now, how skiing has branched out into different categories (park, racing, etc.). That would make for a fucking ridic essay!
 
Terrible research idea. Pick some stupid topic or some generic topic you are interested in. It will be 100 times easier.
 
I switched to skis middle of last season, here's why:

1) I never skateboarded so it was unnatural for me to land sideways off a jump on a snowboard

2) Getting in and out of snowboard bindings blows

3) Getting stuck on the flat with no poles and not being able to skate also blows

4) Getting submerged in really deep powder and having too much surface area to pop up also blows

5) Riding on groomers sucks

6) Getting snow up the asscrack whenever you sit down to put on bindings sucks

Things about snowboarding that are superior:

1) Ski boots are expensive and less comfortable

2) Skis are expensive as fuck

3) Snowboard powder performance is unbeatable, though if I get Hellbents that'll no longer be an issue
 
I wouldn't write a paper on this but whatever, i think skiing and snowboarding are on equal terms, the only thing i can think of that reasonably makes skiing better is easier access to bc with skinning and how when you get stuck on a flat you have and easier time moving.
 
1. we can hike without taking our skis off

2. crossing our skis gives us so many more grab variations

3. we can skate on flat trails

 
if you dont care what grade you get then write this paper. but if you do then dont cuz teachers dont care about sking or snowboarding they want you to realize issues that are an extreme importance in our society, such as abortion. but if your gonna write it then defiantly use danny as a reference how snowboarders get their bad reputation.
 
i wonder what people keep getting on these papers. this topic and any related skiing topic makes for the shittiest papers ever because 1, you can't find credible sources, 2 theres nothing to say, 3 the person grading it probably doesnt give a shit at all.

pick something insightful and worth while and not this bullshit and youll stop wondering why youre getting C's
 
Do it on the controversial aspects of snow making / resort operations related to environmental destruction.

e.g. stream levels affect the fish; edge effects due to trail cutting. etc.

you can argue either way.

You can't compare a film project to a paper. Obviously you can get a good mark making ski-based films because skiing is a very film friendly activity. Writing a paper about "why skiing is better than snowboarding" based on complete subjectivity, on the other hand, is a terrible idea.
To the kid who created this thread, I agree with everyone else when I say to change your paper topic. I know you're really stoked on skiing and that you want to write about it, but chances are you teacher doesn't give a shit about/ isn't knowledgeable about the topic. If you want a good mark, write about a human/global issue (inequalities caused by globalization, abortion, the downfalls of consumerism etc...ANYTHING along those lines). It's already been said, but you can't write a research paper based on your personal opinions, they need to be proven facts.

"I like skiing. Skiing is fun. I have been doing it for X years. Sometimes my pinky toe gets cold when I ski. But it is still fun. The end"

i am writting my on amature and pro athletes doping then brought it into 5 sub topic:

1.) doping in marthons and triathlons

2.) the punishments

3.) damages to your body

4.) different kinds of doping legal and illegal

5.) doping committees

and wow i have found many weird ways of doping

like taking red bull and advil............very bad for your heart
 
Go for the quantitative approach. Skiers have two skis, and snowboarders have one board, therefore skiing is better. Skiers have two poles, snowboarders have no poles, therefore skiing is better. Skiers have multiple ski boot buckles, snowboarders have no ski boot buckles...
 
when i was young on newschoolers like 5 years ago i remember the older members talking about how sick they are of dumb little kids and their immature bullshit..... i get it now, i am so sick of all the little kids on this website.... you seriously wanted to write a research paper on why skiing is better than snowboarding? holy shit that is fucking stupid.

take everyone elses advice and write about porn addiction or something.
