Why skiing in some ways suck

so lately i haven't been wanting to ski, not even see it on my ig feed. i have unfollowed 10 ish skiing pages and people. why? well skiers kinda suck, they are dicks and the culture is pure shit. getting drunk in the chairlift and wearing 80's skisuits. this week when ski or die started, i even unfollowed NS. i'm not burned out of skiing, but i'm just a little tired of the community and how stupid it is.

skateboarding community is something else, it's good, people actually help eachother instead of hating on eachother and calling them out for breaking your brand new ohneps. whenever i meet a skater on the street we usually do a handshake and we are friends in a couple of minutes because we share something common, the love of skateboarding. but most skiers would rather get drunk and ignore the sober one (me) and then just make me ski by myself listening to ATCQ.

felt like i needed some place to get this out rn, i won't be online on ns for the next couple weeks/months. suck dicks and die a painful death.

EDIT: fixed typos

All I got out of that is that you are sober................ That's lame.

never liked alcahol. the taste, the feel and the aftermath. simple as that.

You just need some like minded friends. I used to ski 50+ day seasons and now I probably won't go up if I have to drive up by myself. My biggest pull towards skiing is the social aspect. Sitting on the lift swapping stories, telling jokes, talking about the last run etc.. is key. I can get really excited and stoked if I landed a trick that I was working on or shredded a sick line. Having someone to share the stoke with makes it 10x better. Like shit dude I just moved to this small town and I don't have any skier friends just a few boarders. Posted on NS and meet up with a guy I had never met before and had a hell of a good time.

you could say these same things about any industry even skating. Its all about your perspective.

Yeah but the community is where its at. Skiers are priveliged white kids. And i think skaters are more accepting

hey no one called you out for breaking the skis, you were called out for bitching at on3p

like you? when you called out ON3P and threatened litigation? Seriously man?

I agree but I’ve been day drinking today. But there’s a serious amount of fucktards in the privieged ski community. However you choose the people you associate with...the only reason skiing sucks is cause you for the most part can’t ski locally all year, that’s about it.

Idk how I feel about this. In a way I can slightly vouch for you slightly burning out and I’m not burnt out but not sad the season is over. But what confuses me—if you’re not getting drunk and stoned with friends and skiing, why would you be spending so much time skiing? Sounds like you’re ready to chase a career, other hobbies, get a house etc.

This thread literally tastes like autism. OP just keep doing you and don't worry about others. Your perspective is only a small part of the truth.

Im calling eheath

You're really overthinking things though man. There are dicks in every sport, and I would wager that 99% of the skiers you encounter irl won't give 2 shits about how sober you are

So wait..... Just when pretty much everyone has forgotten about the whole ditch thing, you go ahead and say fuck everyone? *applause* you are the weakest link. Lol wtf

Multiple injuries, staying poor in exchange for a few hours of exhilaration here and there, putting countless hours of effort in with 0 tangible long term benefits, putting relationships on hold or ending them...

Dude you’re reaching so hard.

The the only reason people are mean to you is because you made a complete ass of yourself and threatened to take legal action towards one of the biggest up and coming ski brands, that was literally born and raised on this website. It’s not because the sport is full of rich pompous douchebags, it’s because you’re you’ve acted like an ass. FOH, skiing doesn’t need anything from people like you

Lol if you follow any pro skating media you'll see that teams cruise around parks/spots boozing and piffing in their vans the whole time, also most of the time I go skate a decent park all the good kids/locals give me dirty looks unless I'm decent. Of course ski culture involves getting fucked up and looking stupid, cause you're skiing and all you have to do is have fun and not care.

I think you have blurred the line between social media imagery and skiing community. Social media platforms are used to promote and advertise riders. Its a one direction communication, not an interaction. Think facebook, instragram. Now a community is the human side of the sport; think your ski resort, skier bars and NS.com. This is where you get to meet your future friends and build your community.

I find the ski culture in north america to be awesome. People team up in the parking lots in the morning, ride together all day and party in the parking lot. Dedicated riders are few, but when you find them, never let go. I met one dude that beaconed every avy debris path to check for victims just in case. Newbies are the ones that are loud, self centered and generally dangerous to be around.

The backcountry community is a crazy tight one. Its not advertised, its practiced. You can find great people in courses and develop a long list of contacts. Then, each person on that list have another 3 awesome people to ride with. So far, my real friends have been found and forged from skiing.

So blame a sport because you have social issues? Ive done years at points sober after head injuries. It's never been a big thing.

Also I've always gotten along well with different groups by talking to them instead of being like "idk these people so fuck them".

Skiing hasn't changed you're just stuck in some mental crossroads.

Its all good, it happens but chill out.

They're are douchebags in skating as much as skiing, probably more. Not sure what your point was there.

My goodness, just think, before the internet all this dumb shit just stayed in people's heads...

OP, unfollow your pages, stop coming in here, find some like minded friends, and go ski. It's just skiing.

skiing sucks for you because you just suck as a person, plain and simple.

lol at the audacity of calling out white privileged kids when you blew up ON3Ps customer service threatening legal action over a pair of skis that you broke yourself.

dude you got a lot to learn and we just feel bad, honestly.

Idk what to even say mort because tbh you speak nonsense..

yeah theres a vocal minority of assholes here on the Internet but when you’re Actually out on the hill you can make homies pretty easily. Had I not met any at my local hill and 2nd local hill in Bend I wouldn’t have progressed my park ability as fast as I have.. also my overall ability!

My point is you can’t generalize the community as a Whole based on a small minority. How many users on here actually ski? There’s a good amount that don’t ski.. maybe they used to ski, theres just so much more to the community than NS..

maybe skiing isn’t as big as skateboarding but I wouldn’t say skiing is all that bad, if you truly love to ski like I do, you won’t let anybody and their shitty opinions stop you from having a good time out there. Sorry to see you couldn’t truly enjoy skiing... but don’t try to tell everyone they are assholes just for being a skier.

One thing I would say, probably an unpopular opinion, is that I feel the MTB community is a better place than the skiing community overall. Don't get me wrong, I wanna ski for the rest of my life, but I started doing downhill a few years back and tbh I think the whole atmosphere on the mountain feels better in the summer. It's hard to explain but I think long story short, I think there is far, far less narcissism? Opinions?

I feel like the problem goes deeper than not liking alcohol. Maybe bring some friends with you instead of making them at the ski hill

Exactly.. Every person ive ever met on the chair were respectful to some degree (drunk dudes try their best), chill, stoked, formal, hippy, smart or all of the above. Maybe the problem is OP hmm
