Why Salomon edges suck.

The edges are incredibly thin.

I have 2009 dumonts and I was working on them today. I had to remove some edge that was really loose and I immediatly noticed it was incredibly thin. I could bend a 1 inch section of it with my hand.

Also, I compared it to my one lifes and the one life edge looked to be at least twice as thick. I compared it to my old rossignol s2s and the s2 edge still looked about one and a half times as thick.

Next year I'm gonna buy new park skis, what companies use the thickest edges?

9th is using some extra burly edges for next year

k2 has some pretty thick

but armada, on3p, liberty, and moment are know for having some great edge durability

K2 has 2mm edges which pretty thin which is far from claimed 3,5mm or even 2,5mm as "standard".
Checked on 3 different pairs of domains.

do you know if those measurements go with edge width or thickness? The salomon edges seem wide but really thin

K2 uses 2mm*2mm edges. I haven't measured how thick edges solly use but I think they use the same size except fiberstringers between the edges which won't help against any edgecrack.

There are a few ways to measure edge thickness, but heres the simplest: in a cross section of edge, you have the teeth and then a square bar.

What you can see on the ski are the two sides that are next to the labels. Theres edge height and edge thickness.

Let me preface this with the saying that many companies out there will tell you many different things about whats best for rails and ski edges. So take what everyone says with a grain of salt.

We use an edge thats 2.5 mm measured in edge thickness and about 2.3-2.5 mm on the edge height side (a bit of material is lost when we flatten the base). Many companies use different types of edges for different types of skis, so just cause they use something on one doesnt mean it applies to all.

I'm in the belief that beefier is always better for rails, as its just more material that helps resist damage. Edge teeth are sure important, but stuff like teeth pattern, little things, are probably worth more than bigger and deeper teeth in terms of durability. I know we use thick stuff, but I dont doubt that someone may have and use bigger.

^ thanks.

My dumonts edges seem fine on thickness, but the height has to be about half of their thickness which is what I found really wierd.

the edges on my k2's are amazing. i've jibbed some stupid stuff and my edges are all good. might be caused they're dulled a lot. but still.
