Why must we make skiing move in the wrong direction?

ok..ever think about this. Maybe that is what people want to wear I dont think anyone is forced to wear something. Moron
 
no if you think there is no parrellism between basketball, baseball, and skiing you are dead wrong my freind. Have you ever seen a guy wearing a...... oh i dono what there called, a jersey perhaps?

Or even better what about the spy goggles that were designed to resemble your favorite team? hmmm....... so i guess there really is no parrellism huh?
 
I agree with you man, skiing is all about the soul. Its all about skiing the line like a leaf runs down a river, and not because its the line thats the most extreme. Skiing essentially is about having fun, freedom, and power that you dont usually have. All the clothes, attitude and stuff,isnt really about skiing, thats about life in general, eg. being accepted, whether its being accepted by a certain peer grounp. or the newschool community. That doesnt come from skiing. Skiing, in its purest form is something totally different, its about freedom, the feeling of total happiness. Picture it, you've just skied the most epic line, or landed a trick you've been trying for ages, nothing really matters, apart from that feeling of happiness, are you really thinking about what clothes your wearing? Also, imagine skiing if you were the only person in the world, how much would that suck. Skiings also about relationships, and simply having fun with your friends.

To be honest, this is my drunken rant, so im gonna look at this tommorrow, and be like what the hell? but im just a believer that skiing is something so preciously pure, that when corrupted by materialism, it can take the soul out of skiing, and all the happiness that comes with it.

The image this site portrays is kids in the park. Kids in the park have adapted a style of skiing that allows them to stick landings easier, while making the trick look like it took less effort. No one argues that 'core' companies are saving skiing. 'core' pundits like you aren't saving shit either. Fuck, skiing doesn't need saving. Are resorts closing? Are people getting rid of their sticks for a board? What does anyone care about an image that our sport portrays? Honestly, is it going to save nations? Why don't you find a cause that actually matters.

By supporting a 'core' comany, what do I get? I get a product that I wanted. I have yet to see anyone really argue that these companies are rehabilitating the lost soul of skiing. It's new-school soul. Rappers sample the last generations records, and we are sampling the last generations gains. Skiing in the park SHOULD be about image. A trick shouldn't look like shit, they're supposed to look cool. Baggy pants and a du-rag make them look better. Take MikD v. Sage. Who is more fun to watch skiing? Sage, who skis in tighter pants and flails his arms? Or Mik, who busts shit like he's not even trying?
 
man that would suck so bad if skiing became something like basketball or baseball, it needs to be something more like surfing, less of a sport and more of an artform i think
 
Ok well answer this...If park skiing werent becoming so mainstream and attracting peoples attention then how the fuck would u be getting any better. The ski resorts you ski at arent going to spend their time building a top quality park for a few soul skiers. They will only supply that kind of thing to a group of people that is large eneough...This so called image u talk about apparently appeals to a lot of people and that is making the sport grow which helps skiers demand the types of things we are provided with.
 
The fucking clothing doesn't matter. It doesn't matter what clothing you wear or what kind of clothing you like. What matters is and I think what the main point of the first post was is, that we don't want skiing to become another mainstream piece of shit and lame ass thing like most other sports, SNOWBOARDING. All I see on the parks now is clothing and gear and no fucking talent. I kid comes up wearing all burton gear and shit like that and can't even jump he just sits in the fuckin park and rides. On the other hand some kid with a wal mart board fucking goes and shows him up. That's not what you want, it's not supposed to be about the gear it's about what matters and that's the fun that people have skiing, the people you meet on the chair, in the park or anywhere, we all share the same common interest. Fresh powder and big jumps. At the end of the day it doesn't matter what clothing you wear. Wear what you want but don't judge people on it, find out that they're about and don't let skiing become some kinda ego booster for the few great skiers.

Sage is hands down one of the best skiiers out there. How come mik d wasnt invited to the k2 back nine comp? How come mik d hasnt ever hit pyramid switch, hell i dont even know if hes hit it. The answer to all these questions is that he couldnt ski a technical line to save his life and that hes too obsessed with his own image of being a blanged out grill homo who thinks he can rap. If i ever saw mik d i would go up and slap his bitch ass because he is just so gay and he is not the ideal image we want skiing to be portrayed as. Thank you for being a dumbass

ya dude, im 63 210 and i have an xl jacket and xl pants, so ya i like baggy clothes too, but im not saying baggyness is gay, im saying the thug image is gay, i listen to hip hop all the time but u dont c me sportin a rag or a blanged out grill. YA there sure are many different people out there but when the common image is thugged out cubscouts image its just not right
 
most ppl with XL clothes are trying to look good, not look like a thug. mik d and tanner are the only 2 skiiers who actually think theyre black. 99% of people, including myself, just thing baggy clothes are comfortable and steezy.
 
I was a snowboarder for a while. I know alot about industry. Snowboarding has its cliques and the industry caters to these. Thug, punk, artsy, just plain weird. You can find gear to match it. Skiing is moving that direction. Its HOW industry works. They want to make money they will cater to the public. As for industry taking the "soul" out of skiing, industry cant take the soul out of shit! People take this so called "soul" out of skiing and buddy you cant change people. Stop trying to butt your head against it,you're only gonna get a headache. go with it. Let them be as they wish, and you can be as you wish. I really dont understand what the issue is. I choose to be steezy.This is my choice. Do not question my love for skiing, or my soul for being so. Its my choice and who are you to be judging?

and hey sensaymaster! im living my dream. i get to spend all winter skiing, and parts of the summer! and i share it with good friends, friends who use tight clothes, friends with boards, skis, baggy clothes, "freeride clothes," (clothes thats not tight, but not baggy and realy keeps you warm) people who rides totaly old school.. well, pretty much anything that have fun in the slopes. altough i have school all week, and works alot in the summer to make this happen. im not a rockstar, a rapper, or a thug, im just a 17 year old kid who loves skiing. and you know what? those few months its not possible to ski im still involved with skiing, cause i spend that time editing! man i love my life!

I hate when skiers with all the newest gear look down upon me rockin my 5 year old north face coat and pants and the 1080s from 3 years ago. I personally don't care what I look like. When the cloths work for what you need then they are fine. I personally would rather take more ski trips then spend my money that I work my ass off for on clothing to look the part. And then these gangsta ass bitches with all the newest gear that there parents bought them look at me like I am an idiot when I come into the park. People just need to ski for themselves and stop judging every skier on what they wear.
 
Imho skiing is all about feeling good about yourself when you finaly stomp the trick you have been practicing for a month. I've could have done a switch 720 tailgrab butt naked and still be happy about it! But like many people say, the baggy pants are comfy, and that's not gonna change in a while I think. But the ganstah attitude makes me wanna puke. Guns and hate doesn't got anything to do with skiing! So why act like a badass? It's not a ghetto your skiing in (unless you are retro as hell), it's a mountain! I'm not saying everyone acts that way just because they wear baggy pants. I wear baggy pants, but I don't think I'm 50 cent! But the taste is like your ass....It will be fun to watch how the "steeze" in the future will be like. I'm right here waiting!
 
Yeah dude what happened to like Pennywise in our ski vids AND JUST A BUNCH OF PEEPS DIGIN IT AND SHREDDIN? Its gone. But yeah not much you can do about it anymore. Its a trend it will fade.
 
hello, i am writting this post soley based on the title of the thread. i have not read any posts in the the thread (not even the first one)... but just hear me out.

first off - who is we? there are very (very) few peopole out there who actually have the skill and following to decide what 'direction' the sport is going in.

BUT. I have been skiing my whole life - because i love skiing. when skiing was lame, i was still a skier - did i care that skiing was lame? no, because the actual act of skiing is the same as it always has been. so now that skiing is concidered cool by the general public, why is it that we are all so concerned about the image that skiing has? the fact that skiing is so big right now proves that as long as there is snow, there will be skiing, and if you love skiing, isn't that all that matters - is that you are able to ski?

skiing is also more than just jumps, pipe, and rails. skiing is everything on skis, and sit down and think about what is being done on skis right now all over the mountain, think about the ski equipment we are using, think about the new ski hills being developed and existing ones expanding their boundaries...

is skiing really going in the wrong direction because some people are chosing to do something different with their style? last time i checked style was a represtation of ones self, not of the sport.

i guess what i'm trying to say here is this: does it really matter what direction the ski industry goes? won't you be happy as long as you can still ski? if you arn't happy with the ski industry just leave it alone, or follow a sport that you feel represts you better.
 
i guess i can understand what your saying about staying true to the fundamental importance of skiing, the fun. But for me looking completely steezed bagged out smokin chron with my bandanaz and shizz is whats fun for me.

A few smart ones are trying to make as much money as they can before global warming takes away their place of employment. A few others are skiing for the hell of it, and somehow making money for it. Many are trying to be that rockstar, where girls and cash go hand in hand with Magazine and video/tv coverage. Some work harder than these "rockstars" on this 'progression' thing everyone talks about, to prove to themselve that they are the true leaders.... The true leaders waiting for someone to mimic what they've done to make it popular. but. Skiing is skiing. Whether you have 100 cm skis, or 200 cm skis. Poles or no poles. Pros today are very lucky to have what they do. The true pioneers could tell you what the soul of skiing is. I know one who says it's going out and sliding on the snow with every spare minute you have. not giving a damn what anyone else thinks, because you are skiing.
 
word. baggy pants make tricks look better thats why i try to rock em. some kids take it too far. but once in a while it is key to be a G. I think people including you should stop worrying about where skiings going, theres no way anyone can chane the minds of potentially millions so just go out there and have fun and complain and worry about it.
 
skiing is following snowboarding and look where snowboarding is....HUGE, and look at arron (sp?) bitner and tommi, and justin bennee...soooooo thuged out we dont have rockstar mentality just cause some of us choose to wear big shit its beccause of our own interests and liking...u can wear ur emo jeans and shit if thats what ur into...but who cares stop complaining theres nothing wrong with OUR sport

i dont like the gansta style and i think that wearing a basket ball jersey over your coat is pretty stupid but that has absolutly nothing to do with soul! some people like that style and thats there choice just cuase some people wear jerseys and okley gear dosnt mean that skiing dosnt have a soul so all i have to say to you sensifuckface is blow me
 
Who are you, you seem to be surounded by the industry, if its not some big cover. I could care less if Mik 2 could kill us all with his dick. Sage is better. And so are most other skiiers. I have friends that are 18 and have been homeless for years and you know what, I didn't even know they were until I had known them for a few years, they were completely norma,l. Now that stands out.

In the last 5 years where I've been reading virtually every issue, the only "soul" I've ever been able to grab out of that magazine is *perhaps* the editor's note at the beginning, or the very few pieces of writing which don't seem like they've just been manipulated in such as way as to appear well constructed.

Soul is no one thing. Don't be claiming that.
 
i dont know about you guys but i think doing all of the stuff you just said is fun, i mean there should be a fine line between steezing out your equiptment so much with so much$$$ (especially when you dont have too much skill just yet) but i think its a fun thing to do...
 
im not saying how to have fun, but just the fact that you're having it is what i want... just stop caring about what everyone elts likes to do so much, and have fun with skiing... however it is you do that...
 
^ oh i agree with you if your saying that if your not having fun skiing because of gangsterism, emphasize on clothing, focus on other things, etc... then that is whack.
